The Timbers are bringing their own style of high-energy, foot-stomping folk to The Singing Gallery for the first time on March 23rd. They’ll be sharing the stage in McLaren Vale with WA blues musician Junior Bowles as he travels through SA on his No Shortcuts Tour.
“It’s always exciting to play a venue for the first time and we can't wait to bring our music to a new audience at The Singing Gallery,” said vocalist and rhythm guitarist Simon Basey.
The Timbers are well known for their fast-paced live shows and their distinctive style, often described as just the right mix of roots, folk and Celtic bushman punk.
Audiences can expect another raucous performance from the quartet, while also being introduced to the 1920s-inspired blues music of Junior Bowles.
It’s been a busy start to 2012 for The Timbers, with each of its members performing in Adelaide Fringe shows. Vocalist Simon Basey and violinist Sarah O’Brien performed in ‘We as Art, We as Artists’ – a collaborative choir project with a number of Adelaide’s best singer-songwriters. Guitarist Ben Roberts is set to perform in ‘Cold River Blues’ (on March 18) along-side other local talents Emily Davis and Cal Williams Jr., while percussionist Craig Atkins took to the stage in ‘Exhibit Amy’ and a number of solo gigs at Shimming West (March 10 & 16).
The band is also preparing work for two different locally produced compilation CDs: Frank the Poet and Preloved Folk.
And to top it all off, The Timbers have recently finished recording some new material at Adelaide’s premier recording studio, Chapel Lane.
The first single from their second EP will be released in May, and will be followed up with a busy year of touring and festival performances.
