Top 10 events in South Australia this April

Mad March might be over, but don’t stress April is jam packed with events all across Adelaide from music gigs to family markets, we’ve got you covered.

While we’re all pretty devastated that the mad March season is now coming to an end, we’re also super pumped for all the events that are set to hit Adelaide in April.

In fact, April is fast becoming one of the state’s busiest months with its fair share of festivals, music gigs, and sports extravaganzas. We’ve compiled a list of the top 10 events happening around South Australia this coming April, so you can get ahead and start planning now!

Barossa Arts Festival | April 1 – 30

The Barossa Arts Festival is a biennial event held in the picturesque Barossa Valley. The festival’s aim is to showcase the talents of South Australian artists, foster creativity, collaboration, and promote accessibility and inclusivity in the arts.

Slated to run for an exhilarating 30 days throughout April, they’ll be artist exhibitions, workshops, makers markets, battle of the bands and an extensive arts trail spanning from Mt Pleasant and Gawler, through the Barossa and into Kapunda.

Gather Round | April 4 – 7

Heading back for its second year, the AFL’s Gather Round will showcase South Australia in a four-day festival. The whole state is coming alive with events, pop-up bars, entertainment and more to celebrate the “festival of footy” in our great state.

The Adelaide Oval will serve as the focal point for the event, showcasing all 18 clubs competing in South Australia from April 4th until the 7th. The Norwood Oval and the Hills town Mount Barker will each host two matches.

There’s so much on during that time, from The Temper Trap entertaining attendees at the rejuvenated Norwood Food and Wine Festival, to Australian music sensations Jet and Baker Boy taking to the stage for an unforgettable free concert outside Adelaide Oval.

SummerSalt Ocean Alley Festival | April 6

South Australia’s vibrant music scene is about to get even better with SummerSalt’s highly anticipated music festival featuring the chart-topping headliner, Ocean Alley.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Point Malcolm Reserve in Semaphore Park, this music extravaganza promises a sparkling haze of good times, and a stellar lineup of artists. Joining Ocean Alley are special guests Hockey Dad, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, Coterie, West Thebarton, Rum Jungle, and Clews.

Norwood Food & Wine | April 7

The Norwood Food & Wine Festival is back after almost a decade as a part of the the electrifying AFL Gather Round extravaganza! It will bring the ultimate fusion of food, wine, entertainment and footy to the area, spanning a significant stretch of The Parade, from Portrush Road to Osmond Terrace.

Headlining the festival’s entertainment lineup is multi-ARIA award-winning indie rock band, The Temper Trap, alongside local musicians, including the Dusty Lee Band and Motel Music. Big screens will line The Parade and within participating venues will broadcast AFL matches, ensuring no one misses out on the action. Plus, the precinct’s local bars, cafes and restaurants will be joined by some of the state’s best wine, beer and spirit producers for an afternoon of festivities in true South Australian style.

Aldinga Airshow | April 7

Located in the flourishing heart of McLaren Vale, Aldinga Airfield is set to be the host of 2024’s highly anticipated Aldinga Airshow which is set to be the perfect day out for thrill seekers and families alike.

A diverse cast of aerobatic talent is set to grace the airfield with experienced local pilots and numerous aircraft displays. The airshow will also be home to generous food and beverage offerings, with around 50 local stalls.

Simple Plan Concert | April 9

Canadian rock sensation Simple Plan is gearing up to head Down Under with their highly anticipated Australian tour in April 2024. The band will be joined by fellow pop-punk royalty Boys Like Girls and We The Kings for an unforgettable night of music and memories.

Simple Plan’s legacy spans over two decades, marked by over 10 million albums sold worldwide, MTV superstardom, and numerous awards. Their timeless hits like “I’m Just a Kid” and “Welcome to My Life” have left an indelible mark on the music world. In 2022, they self-released “Harder Than It Looks,” reaffirming their place in the pop-punk pantheon.

McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic | April 14

The McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic gears up for its 18th year, promising a celebration of motoring history. This signature street parade, scheduled for Sunday, 14 April, is set to impress with a new touch of luxury—introducing a fleet of Rolls Royce cars to the lineup for the very first time.

With more than 15 elegant and luxurious British cars gracing the McLaren Vale Main Street, the parade will be a magnificent sight. There will also be vintage fashion, local wines, gourmet food, and live entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

LIV Golf Adelaide | April 26 – 28

Excitement is building for LIV Golf Adelaide 2024 which will boast an international field of golfing stars.
