The Ultimate Adelaide Racing Fashionista Announced

An Adelaide local has been crowned South Australia’s best-dressed race-goer, impressing the judges with her stand out ensemble and winning the cultural experience of a lifetime.

Adelaide local Justine Lundberg has been crowned South Australia’s best-dressed race-goer, impressing the judges with her stand out ensemble and winning the cultural experience of a lifetime.

Fifteen of the State’s most stylish ladies were vying for the top prize at Schweppes Oaks Day at Morphettville on Saturday, May 7, hoping to take home an overseas trip to the fashion capitals of Asia.

Wearing a navy dress by Carla Zampatti, Justine wowed the crowd at the Fashion at The Races State Final Luncheon with her impeccable taste and outstanding millinery which featured rose gold and marble accents, by Debbie Kelly Millinery.

Coming in second was Kimmi Varcoe from Millicent, who won the Oaks Day heat to qualify, with the judges admiring her attention to detail, confidence and deportment. Kimmi paired a P.A.R.O.S.H. dress with a neck tie and millinery – both designed by her mother Helen Varcoe of Helen Mary Millinery.

The event’s judging panel included Keepsake The Label head designer Carmen Dugan; editor of Clique Magazine Charlotte Chambers; Angela Menz, who makes up one half of blogging duo On Track on Trend; and Matt Stuart, Brand Manager at Thoroughbred Racing SA. They selected Justine from an outstanding group of contenders who had been crowned fashion leaders at the various race meets around the State.

Ms Menz, who hails from Melbourne, said the final decision was not an easy one to make.

“Each of the finalists looked absolutely amazing. It was clear a vast amount of time and effort had been put in for a chance at the final crowning and to take home the five-star holiday,” Ms Menz said.

“We really wanted to see that ‘wow-factor’ shine through – someone who excelled in terms of their outfit but also presented with sophistication and confidence. Justine is to be congratulated on her flawless presentation – she was certainly most deserving of the title.”

Justine, a mother-of-two, will jet off on a 10-day tour of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Macau, with the prize including business class return tickets for two, accommodation, shopping tours, sightseeing and a private box at the Sha Tin racecourse during the world-famous Hong Kong International.

As runner-up, Kimmi was rewarded with an extravagant shopping experience and styling session from Adelaide fashion emporium BNKR, valued at $2000.

Fashion at The Races has once again affirmed its status as an event not to be missed. It embraces all that we love about race day fashion – style, sophistication, deportment and regional pride,” Ms Menz said.

The State Final Luncheon was hosted by Fashion at The Races ambassador and Channel Seven weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy and included fashion parades from BNKR, with millinery by Adorn Collection, and TAFE SA students with their ‘From Orient’ collection. Designer and fashion illustrator Petar Prodanovic was also on site, sketching luncheon guests in their race day attire.

The 2015/16 Fashion at The Races season was supported by BNKR, Oaks Hotels and Resorts and the South Australian Jockey Club.

Entrants to Fashion at The Races were aged 18 or over and judged on appropriateness of the outfit for the particular event, originality and confidence, attention to detail with accessories, appreciation of current fashion trends, grooming and deportment.
