The Ultimate Penfolds Grange Auction Is Happening

All for a great cause in support of the WCH Foundation at the upcoming ‘Night Of Lights’ Gala Ball.

There’s already plenty of excitement and anticipation for the upcoming ‘Night of Lights’ Gala Ball. Adelaide Town Hall will be celebrating two Adelaide Icons – the Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the Adelaide Town Hall – and also celebrating the evolution of fashion dance over the last 150 years with the help of Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Liza Emanuele and the Adelaide Fashion Festival, amongst others.

But it seems Penfolds have almost stolen the show, with a very generous donation of 50 bottles of Penfolds Grange wines to be auctions off in support of the WCH Foundation (perhaps better known as TeamKids).

Arguably Australia’s most celebrated wine, Penfolds Grange is an official heritage listed icon of South Australia, producing wine that is coveted by connoisseurs and aficionados worldwide.

The donation, made by the Nordin Family, will be auctioned at the upcoming TeamKids ‘Night of Lights’ Gala Ball on Friday, 18 November, at an event partnering with the Adelaide Town Hall to celebrate their 150th birthday.
The donated wine has been certified by a wine valuation expert to be worth over $21,000 and includes a bottle each of the Penfolds Bin 95 Grange 1982 and 1988, six bottles of the Penfolds Bin 95 Grange 1995, plus another 42 bottles from 1977 to 1992, 1978 to 1992, 1984 to 1991 and 1986 to 1988.

WCH Foundation Board Chairman Dr Nicholas Begakis AO said “Proceeds raised from the event, including the auction of the Penfolds Grange, will go towards supporting our commitment to funding CAR-T research at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.”

CAR-T is a form of immunotherapy that takes cells from a cancer patient, reprograms them and puts them back into the patient’s body. The replaced cells then seek out and kill the cancer cells whenever they appear. It’s hoped that the funds raised at the ball can extend this to treating other forms of cancer, such as breast cancer.
“The Nordin Family’s donation to our auction listing for the evening is great indication of the support in the community of the amazing work undertaken by the WCH Foundation and is truly a humbling contribution,” he said.

The event, happening on November 18th, is now sold out, however people are still able to place bids on the Grange wines as well as on other large ticket auction items via the TeamKids website, with final bids being received at the gala event on the night
