If you’re still looking for something to do this weekend and feel like a little adventure to one of the best hidden gem pubs in the Hills, The Uraidla Hotel might just have the perfect plan. They’re back with their biggest event of the year, and it’s set to be a cracker.

Back for another year, Winter Soulstice will be lighting up the Hills this Saturday, June 21st, with a soul-warming evening of food, fire, and fun.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Piccadilly Valley, Winter Soulstice is The Uraidla Hotel’s biggest event of the year, and with free entry, bonfires, mulled wine, live entertainment, and a few surprises in the mix, it’s no wonder this annual celebration has become a seasonal favourite in the Hills.

“Winter Solstice is an old tradition that has roots in a few different cultures, but we’re taking most of our inspiration from the pagan holiday (with a sprinkling of some Celtic traditions),” shared Mitch from the Uraidla team.

“It’s basically an event to acknowledge the shortest day of the year and celebrate brighter and better things going forward. It was originally a very small event for us, with a bonfire and a group of locals who came and celebrated with us in 2017. It’s now grown into a festival-scale event with a focus on supporting local – local-entertainers, local suppliers, local musicians and the local community.”

From 4pm to 10pm, every corner of the venue will come alive. Uraidla Brewery beers will be flowing, and so will the hot chips and pulled pork rolls from the hotel’s very own food van. Staazi & Co are back with their iconic vegan eats, Crepes & Co will be serving sweet delights, and the Uraidla Bakery will be dishing out some pretty tasty pastries.

“Expect plenty of dark beer from the Uraidla Brewery, mulled wine, warm cocktails (the boozy hot chocolate is looking delicious), hearty stews from our own kitchen, pizza from the Uraidla Bakery, as well as some help from our friends at Staazi and co, and Friwi Crepes.”

But the Winter Soulstice isn’t just about what’s on your plate or in your glass. The entertainment lineup will see acoustic sets and a surprise band take the stage. There’ll be fire twirlers, tarot readers, and even feats of strength from a strong man and strong woman duo. It’s a little weird, a lot of fun, and completely on-brand for this Hills spot.

If you’ve never been to The Uraidla Hotel, this is the perfect reason to make the drive. Located on Greenhill Road, it’s a venue with serious character. There’s everything from exposed stone walls and timber beams that bring the outdoors in, to a wine cellar of our dreams. The hotel has become a destination in its own right since its massive renovation, with awards under its belt and a reputation for doing things differently.

“The pub is absolutely beautiful and the vibe is completely different to most other hotels – we’ve tried to stay true to the original fitout and really paid homage to the art deco style renovations the pub received in the 30’s. There’s also our focus on supporting local – almost everything we sell comes from producers in the Adelaide Hills – whether that be food, wine, (even plants for the garden), or the beers and baked goods made in the on-site brewery and bakery.”

As for the Soulstice event, no booking is required, but the team recommends you come early. Once the venue hits capacity, it’s a one-in, one-out situation. So if you’re still looking for something to do this weekend, grab a group of mates and head through the Hills for an unforgettable winter solstice celebration.
