Love Wheaty Brewing Corps but don’t feel like heading to the pub? You can now enjoy the cult venue’s beers right from your home!
Thebarton hotspot the Wheatsheaf Hotel and its brewery, Wheaty Brewing Corps, have just launched canned beers for takeaway, and they’re sure to be a hit.
The popular pub is known for its wide range of funky beers on tap, including their own unique flavours–– such as “Wheaty-Bix” breakfast stout, an anchovy-flavoured IPA, and a smoked chipotle black IPA––and other brewery’s offerings.
Their canned beers, sold in four, six, and 12-packs, will rotate frequently, with only a limited selection available at one time; Their first takeaway beers for sale included a porter, a rice lager, a pale ale, and their much-loved Black Lime Gose.
“We will release a new beer every week and keep turning it over,” Wheaty Brewing Corps and Wheatsheaf Hotel owner Jade Flavell tells us.
“The takeaway cans won’t have a core range – in typical Wheaty style.”
The owner explains that while she was initially wary of canning their signature beers, COVID forced her hand.
“I’m a firm believer that beer is best drunk in the shadow of the brewery where it’s brewed, at the source, but the brew and pour on site model was very vulnerable when people aren’t allowed on the premises,” Flavell says.
Luckily, she stumbled upon the Wild Goose gosling, a bench-top canner designed for craft breweries. The compact machine allows for small batch production and canning right on site. Flavell says that although she was unsure about selling Wheaty beers off-site at first, the gosling allows her to make takeaway beers in quality, “Wheaty-style” manner.
“We have total control over the process – whatever we want, whenever we want,” she says.
