If you’re heading south for a summer escape, there’s a hidden gem along the highway that deserves a spot on your must-stop list. Three hours into the drive, the Willalooka Tavern, Café and Motel has been given a fresh new look, welcoming travellers back just in time for the warmer months.
Once a humble general store with more than 40 years of country history, the venue was purchased by the Willoway Farming Group in 2023, sparking a new era for the venue. Ever since, the team has poured their heart and energy into reimagining the café, pub, and beer garden, transforming it into the ultimate rest point for locals, road-trippers, and anyone looking for a taste of regional hospitality. The makeover included a full kitchen renovation carried out with Mundulla Engineering, delivering new stainless-steel range hoods and splashbacks, along with a refreshed bar, updated manager’s accommodation and a tidy new landscape.
After a winter closure, the Willalooka Café has officially reopened, bringing a focus on takeaway favourites served with warm country service. From December 1st, visitors can get their hands on the new menu, featuring fresh pastries, all-day pizza and Aussie classics that hit the spot when you’re fuelling up for the next stretch of your journey. The Tavern’s dine-in offering will reopen a little later, with an exact date still to come.
As the revitalised venue progresses through its phased reopening, the team is gearing up to host private events from birthdays and anniversaries to Christmas celebrations, with bookings now open.
In the meantime, the focus remains on getting both the Café and Tavern humming along. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates on events like the annual Speed Shear, Willalooka on the Green and the crowd-favourite Dog Trials.
Looking further ahead, the Willoway Farming Group is committed to nurturing local communities and supporting regional businesses, with a vision to make the Willalooka Tavern a place where travellers and locals alike can gather, unwind and create memories for years to come.
