Get your thinking caps on and help raise money for Adelaide’s disadvantaged youth at The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz run by leading SA youth charity, youthinc.
youthinc co-founder, Kate Chapley, said the aim this year is to make The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz even bigger and to raise $100,000 to fund life changing programs to benefit Adelaide’s disadvantaged young people.
Ms Chapley said that all tables are now sold although a couple of single tickets are still available.
“In SA, more than 30,000 young people aged 15 to 24 live in poverty and there are more than 4,000 homeless people under the age of 25,” Ms Chapley said.
A staggering 42,000 young people are not fully engaged in work or study and more than 24,000 have no connection to school, work or training. Furthermore, around 2,000 youth are long-term unemployed. It is also estimated that keeping just one long term unemployed youth in work for 12 months will produce a saving to the community of about $100,000.
“We aim to lessen these numbers by placing disadvantaged young people into jobs.”
“We know that getting young people into work is just the first step to helping them grow and succeed, so we also provide workplace mentors and a range of personal development programs and support services. These initiatives help build life skills and confidence.”
The World’s Biggest Pub Quiz is youthinc’s fifth annual quiz night, with last year’s event raising nearly $70,000 and attracting more than 800 people. It offers celebrity presenters, silent and major auctions, live entertainment and the quiz. Raffle prizes include a $4,000 travel package.
“We need support from Adelaide businesses and individuals,” Ms Chapley said.
“Our major sponsors this year are International Ceramics and the Commercial Retail Group. Other major supporters are Hardy Milazzo, Rider Levett Bucknall, IGA Distribution, NAB, Heineken and Cellarbrations. Their support is absolutely invaluable. Now that all tickets are sold, the best support that interested companies or individuals can offer is to donate item for our auctions.”
youthinc is a well-established, registered Australian charity. It is not a welfare agency or job agency and relies on much-needed financial support from donors.
