The World’s Best Airlines of 2024 have been named by Skytrax, considered the “Oscars of the aviation industry”.

The World Airline Awards, hosted by Skytrax, are considered the “Oscars of the aviation industry”. They encompass over 200 categories, including the prestigious title of World’s Best Airline, and over 350 airlines are up for consideration.

Qatar snagged the main World’s Best Airline award, taking over last year’s winner Singapore Airlines who was bumped to second place.

But how did Australian airlines fare?

Qantas Airways performed the best of the Australian airlines, achieving spot number 24 in the top 100 best airlines worldwide, down from their spot at number 17 last year.

Qantas was also awarded the titles of Best Business Class in Australia/Pacific, Best Premium Economy Class in Australia/Pacific, Cleanest Airline in Australia/Pacific, Best Premium Economy Class Onboard Catering in Australia/Pacific, and Best Economy Class Onboard Catering in Australia/Pacific.

Rex Airlines landed right in the middle of the placings at number 50 of the 100 best worldwide airlines, up from their place last year at number 56. Rex was also awarded the title of Best Regional Airline in Australia/Pacific.

Next of the Australian airlines was Virgin Australia, which ranked at number 54 in the top 100 best airlines worldwide, down from their spot at number 46 last year. Virgin Australia won none of the subcategories.

Jetstar was ranked number 75 in the list of 100 best worldwide airlines, also down from their spot last year at number 69. Jetstar did take home with the Best Low-Cost Airline in Australia/Pacific title, placing second for The World’s Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airlines in 2024.

The awards were announced on June 24th this year in a gala ceremony held at the luxurious Fairmont Windsor Park in London. More than 325 guests attended, with a large number of CEOs and Presidents poised to accept awards and proud uniformed airline staff.

The World Airline Awards began in 1999 and the annual awards remain independent and impartial, the awards chosen via voluntary customer surveys, with over 100 customer nationalities and 6 languages represented.
