If you’re in need of something (or someone) to spruce up your date night, or you’re a bit of a tech lover. Or perhaps you’re yawning at the thought of yet another dinner out, eating yet another meal with a human chef at the helm. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we’ve seen it all before. Whatever the case, Hotel Indigo in Adelaide’s Central Market precinct has the answer. From next month, they’re welcoming a new face to the kitchen.

He’s French, he’s only six centimetres tall, he’s extremely well travelled, and he’s about to turn dinner into theatre.

Le Petit Chef is an animated culinary character – “according to legend, he was born in April 2015 in Marseille, France” – who appears right on your table thanks to 3D projection mapping (like a hologram).

The tiny Chef runs across plates and cutlery, lighting stoves, chopping vegetables, and plating up meals, transporting you “to his animated world,” all while the kitchen team works in sync behind the scenes.

He prepares each dish in time with real plates arriving at the table. It’s almost impossible to imagine, which makes it all the more enticing.

“Le Petit Chef doesn’t just offer its guests a meal; rather, the dinner show is a captivating journey made possible by modern 3D-projection technologies, interactive storytelling, music, gourmet cuisine and the charm of the 6 cm tall chef,” the Le Petit Chef team shared on the website.

“The sensations, music and flavours blend seamlessly into a multi-sensory journey that is as delightful as it is delicious.”

Plus, the unique experience is the perfect photo op – Le Petit Chef is no stranger to social stardom, and certainly not camera shy. The show is also paired with fun, themed music and props.

Le Petit Chef has already travelled the world, from Kansas City to Vietnam, Prague, Amsterdam, Goa and even Osaka. October 20 marks his Adelaide debut, and he’s pulling out all the stops.

The Classic Menu champions South Australian produce. The rollout includes highlights like hand-stretched burrata with heirloom tomato and truffle paste, Port Lincoln mussels and Goolwa pipis in a seafood bisque, marinated octopus with baby fennel, and a Coonawarra Angus beef tenderloin with shiraz jus. Dessert is a caramel–vanilla tart with locally-loved Beerenberg’s berry sauce and house-made strawberry sorbet.

Guests across the globe have already dubbed Le Petit Chef “perfect for a date night” and “a feast for all senses.” And it’s clear Adelaide’s appetite is no different. Bookings are almost gone for October, with November and December selling fast.

An adventurous night with the world’s smallest chef, set in the quirky and charming Hotel Indigo. Dinner is about to take an interesting new form. One for the memory books, that’s for sure.

Guests are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their session. Vegetarian and kids menus are available.
