16 August – 7 September 2013, SPACE THEATRE Opening Night: 20 August 8pm
In only its second production following its highly acclaimed premiere season with Belvoir in 2012, this bittersweet, vibrant and utterly bewitching tale by young Australian playwright Rita Kalnejais will touch audiences of all ages.
When your world is crumbling around you, it’s the little things that keep you going. Reading the back of the cereal box at breakfast. Getting to work on time. Trying not to think about the fact that your 14 year old daughter won’t live to see her next birthday.
Free spirit Milla is just one of a whimsical cast of characters in Kalnejais’ wonderfully idiosyncratic play. There’s also her mother Anna whose upbeat mood is increasingly reliant on medication, her ever-efficient father Henry, drug-dealing dog groomer Moses and Latvian violin tutor Gidon. It’s a tale of hope, and grief, of sheer desperation. But ultimately, it is a story about love. Because, when the world as people know it ends, that’s all that remains.
State Theatre Company welcomes back Director Chris Drummond (who last worked with the Company on 2008’s When the Rain Stops Falling) as well as beguiling young Adelaide actress Danielle Catanzariti (Pinocchio).

Chris Drummond is Artistic Director of Brink Productions where his credits include Land & Sea, Skip Miller’s Hit Songs, Harbinger, The Hypochondriac, Beetle Graduation, The Clockwork Forest (co-production with Windmill Theatre), This UnchartedHour (co-production with State Theatre Company) and Drums in the Night. In 2004 as Associate Director of State Theatre Company, Chris’ production of Robert Dessaix’s Night Letters, co- adapted with Susan Rogers, was presented at the 2004 Adelaide Festival and Playbox, short-listed for a 2005 NSW Premier’s Literary Award and nominated for a number of Helpmann and Victorian Green Room Awards.
