Are you watching closely? The full house at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday 25 January certainly was when the sensational Cosentino took to the stage with his mind boggling show, Decennium: The Greatest Hits Tour.
In the ten years since Cosentino became an overnight sensation on Australia’s Got Talent, he has become a household name in Australia and a genuine super-star on the global stage. Cosentino was the first Australian magician to have his own TV show. He has written, produced, and starred in nine highly successful prime-time specials, which have now been broadcast in over 40 countries and seen by over 500 million people.
Decennium: The Greatest Hits Tour is a celebration of Cosentino’s brilliant career so far. It is action packed from his very first appearance (literally!) through to the final moments. The show features several grand scale illusions reimagined with Cosentino’s unique flair, death defying escape stunts and some of the best close-up, sleight of hand magic you will ever see. Selecting audience members to join him on stage for these close-up tricks (with the images being streamed via camera to giant screens) allowed Cosentino to demonstrate his years of hard work to perfect his art. His sleight of hand was captivating. His grand finale, his famous escape stunt aptly named ‘stabbed’ had the entire house holding their breath before exploding into applause as Cosentino escaped a mechanism of flying knives at the very last second.
Cosentino’s skills in the art of illusions and sleight of hand is brilliant, but it’s his showmanship that places him in a league of his own. His charm and charisma quickly win the audience over. His cheeky smile and the glint of mischief in his eye makes you instantly trust. Should you trust a magician? With Cosentino, you cannot do anything but. His stories are well crafted and pull the audience into his magical world, creating an unforgettable night out at the theatre.
Cosentino was joined by Kate and Molly, two exceptionally talented dancers/assistants who aided the night, and a special mention has to go to his extremely hard-working and invisible crew working behind the scenes to make sure everything worked.
This was Cosentino at his best. His Saturday night performance was his last here in South Australia, but he still has many stops in other states on his Decennium: The Greatest Hits Tour. Do what you can to get a ticket before they disappear.
