If you haven’t been living under a rock you should know that Maximilian’s Restaurant in the beautiful Adelaide Hills has South Australia’s only floating golf hole. So that is a golf green located in their dam in the beautiful valley overlooked from the deck of the restaurant. Pretty damn awesome if you ask us.
You can test your luck by purchasing a bucket of golf balls (they float) and attempt to sink a hole in one – which will score you a cool $2k worth of prizes. Easier said than done? Let’s talk odds here just to make it clear. You are looking at odds of about about 1 in every 30,000 balls ending in a hole in one (that is according to Maximilian’s owner Andrew Friebe). Doesn’t stop a whole bunch of people trying! Heck, that is better chances than you have of winning the lottery.
So far the prize has only been won three times. Hey, they can’t make it too easy! The most recent, it was late one a Friday afternoon and Andrew Purchase (from Desyn Homes) just happened to be enjoying a Christmas function at the restaurant’s pavilion…
Now that would be all well and normal if it weren’t for the strange coincidences surrounding the events that Friday.
Introducing Ken and Katrina – not staff, not owners but Maximilian’s fans and regulars. These two have seen all three winners hit that winning shot. Seriously! What are the chances?!
“The odds of that are not within my mathematical capabilities,” said Andrew, “but perhaps it’s worth asking when you buy a bucket of golf balls, if they happen to be on the premises”.
If that wasn’t enough, also up visiting Maximilian’s on that Friday was Andrew Thomas, the brother of the very first hole in one winner. Coincidence or fate, whatever you call it, the result saw another winner added to the tally. And just to note, Andrew Friebe was last seen heading off to buy a lottery ticket – with Ken, Katrina and Andrew Purchase in tow!
We think we might try our luck at this hole in one challenge… Wonder what our lucky charms will be?
