Travelling in the Flinders Ranges? There’s an epic lamb experience you need to try

These Lamb Tasting Dinners are an outback bucket list experience at Rawnsley Park Station, with four courses and paired wines.

There’s nothing quite like the Australian outback. The vast, raw beauty of untouched wilderness evokes a sense of seclusion.

Here in South Australia, we’re lucky to have such scenes right on our doorstep. The Flinders Ranges are a bucket list location for many, and there’s plenty of options no matter how much you want to spend.

If you’re looking to stay somewhere nice within the heart of the Flinders Ranges, the Rawnsley Park Station is offering visitors a luxurious stay in what can often be an unforgiving environment.

But whether you’re staying in the range of accommodation options that Rawnsley Park has to offer, camping in the Wilpena Park caravan park, or just passing through, there’s a lamb dining experience that you need to try.

A working sheep station, owners Tony and Julieanne Smith have transformed the humble property into an award-winning tourism facility with an award-winning restaurant – the Woolshed.

Perfectly positioned on the edges of Wilpena Pound, Rawnsley Park Station is offering visitors exquisite lamb tasting dinners: four-course dinners, where patrons make their way through a set menu, filled with various delicious lamb dishes.

There’s the moroccan lamb meatballs, with sugo di pomodoro, persian feta and minted yoghurt, or the melt-in-your-mouth slow cooked lamb leg tossed through a creamy pesto linguine.

The main event? The lamb duo: a 6-hour slow braised lamb shank and lamb cutlet with heirloom baby carrots, broccolini and red wine jus.

And to top it all off, there’s an apple and cinnamon creme caramel cake with vanilla ice creams, or a dark chocolate mousse mille feuille with shortbread and fresh raspberries. Delicious.

Each dish is paired with beautiful wines sourced locally from the Clare and Barossa Valleys.

Tony & Julie Smith, Owners of Rawnsley Park Station, use these dinners to highlight the local produce from the area, specifically the succulent lamb from their property.

Rawnsley Park has approximately 1200 Merino x Dohne Ewes that produce approximately 1500 lambs each year. The Merino/Dohne is a dual purpose sheep that produces good quality wool and also a well muscled lamb that will have you drooling.
