$39 dumpling degustation, yep, you read the right! Stepney’s Momoda by Krish is doing the ultimate dumpling deal that you’re going to want to try.

Every Wednesday, you’ll have the chance to try an epic lineup of dumplings and menu favs from Momoda. Led by executive chef and creator Krish Dutt, this is a real collection of his favourites and the most popular dumplings.

“The idea first came from someone who attended one of our Tasting Australia events,” said Krish.

“We only had two types of dumplings on the menu at the time, and they suggested we do more in this degustation style.”

Krish and the team took this idea on board initially as a one-off, then as a monthly special, and due to its popularity, now a weekly addition to the menu.

On the menu, you’ll find a mix of dumplings of all shapes, sizes, and flavours. As part of the degustation, you’ll find two seafood options. The steamed prawn dumplings are served in a tom yum broth with herb oil and fried noodles. There’s also fried scallop dumplings, served with a signature Momoda XO sauce, Asian herbs and crispy shallots. Krish and his team make soju in-house and recommend pairing the prawn with their mandarin soju and the scallop with grapefruit.

For the meat options, there are three to enjoy. First is the pan-fried pork and cabbage dumplings with a miso ginger glaze, garlic crisps, fennel, and an apple slaw. Then there is a chicken and mushroom dumpling, served in a Thai green curry sauce and topped with coriander. But that’s not all, finally, there are steamed wagyu beef dumplings served with a black bean sauce and chilli oil and spring onion, and ponzu. If you’re keen to grab a drink, try the pork with the green apple soju, the chicken with lychee or mango, and the wagyu with kiwi fruit. This is a pairing Krish learnt in New Zealand, and it’s one you can’t go past.

Of course, no meal is complete without a sweet treat, so the degustation is finished out with a surprise dessert dumpling. Krish says that with the dessert, they tend to switch up the flavours, so it’s something different each time you come in.

Momoda was created by Krish two years ago, but it has been in the works for much longer.

“We’ve been working on this for the last ten years. Momoda is a funky, fun place that you don’t just have to come to for special events, but a spot for every day. If you feel like going out for something quick in the middle of the week, it’s the perfect spot.

“We’re not expensive either, we’re really focused on making it an affordable spot for everyone to be able to eat at.”

So if you’re looking for a new weeknight dinner spot, this is definitely the place to try.
