Christmas

This iconic SA bakery has your entire Christmas shopping list sorted (and that includes award-winning puddings)

From customised Christmas hampers to stocking fillers, decadent Christmas puddings and DIY choc chip houses, the award-winning bakery is bringing delicious festive spirit.

Christmas has a way of sneaking up on you. One minute you’re cruising through December, grazing on cherries and pretending your out-of-office starts early, the next you realise you still need gifts for the kids’ teachers, the in-laws, and that one friend who “doesn’t want anything” (they do).

The good news is that absolutely anyone’s heart is through their stomach, and Kytons Bakery has the shopping list sorted.

Award-winning bakery and cherished South Australian icon Kytons Bakery is getting into the festive spirit, not only celebrating its 87th anniversary but offering a delicious and delightful range of traditional sweet treats for people to add to their Chrissy menu this year. There’s everything from Christmas puddings, mince pies, and fruit cakes to hampers and gift ideas. And yes, the famous lamingtons that have taken out “Best in Australia” aren’t going anywhere.

If you’re a traditionalist, Kytons has you covered. Savour all the senses with the decadent Christmas puddings. Full of brandy-soaked Australian fruit, they’re rich, sweet, and delicious (and best served with a scoop of vanilla custard or a dollop of Golden North ice cream). Or dial it up and try the sticky date and chocolate puddings, each coated in a fragrant and rich sauce. Mince pies are a staple, and Kytons’ gourmet fruit cake is dense, fruity and everything tradition should taste like – and it’s not just for the oldies, either. Dunk in your coffee and let the Christmas chaos unfold around you.

“Christmas pudding and mince pies are steeped in festive tradition, and we love seeing younger generations trying them for the first time,” says co-owner Sharon Sutton.

“At the Royal Show this year, so many young visitors were delighted with what they tasted. Our mince pies are made with buttery shortbread pastry, and both of our puddings are moist, decadent and delicious. The aged brandy pudding has a touch more brandy and is left to mature for six months — it lets the flavours and aromas really intensify.”

If you’re not salivating, it’s time to check your pulse.

For those who like to modernise their Christmas classics, Kytons has a few delicious tricks up its sleeve. Build your own dessert grazing board with mini puddings, mince pies, fresh fruit and jugs of custard so everyone can get creative. Try mince pie ice-cream sandwiches by popping off the top pastry and adding a disc of ice-cream. Or turn the pudding into a trifle situation and watch Nan sprint to the dining table for first dibs.

This year Kytons has two “build your own” projects. The ever popular Santa’s Choc Chip House Kit, a modern (and extremely tasty) take on the gingerbread house. Plus this year Kytons has launched a new Star Christmas Tree Kit as well, because nobody is too old for a bit of edible DIY. And if you’re Father Christmas this year – wink wink – and forgot how deep those stockings are, Kytons’ Larry socks and organic cotton tea towels make great fillers.

Then there’s the gourmet hampers, a great, more elevated option for staff gifts, client thank-yous, or that special person who deserves the whole bakery wrapped in a bow. Choose from their curated range or even have yours customised, the team are more than happy to work with your budget and needs.

Supporting Kytons means supporting South Australia. Darren and Sharon Sutton have owned the bakery for 23 years, making everything fresh at Edwardstown using local ingredients where they can. The business has evolved through decades – from a Central Market stall to a fundraising favourite – and now an iconic SA brand available statewide.

You can shop Kytons in more than 200 locations across South Australia, including Drakes, Foodlands and specific gourmet fruit and veg stores, or head straight to the source at Edwardstown. If you prefer to Christmas shop in pyjamas, their online store generously offers free metro delivery on orders over $100.

Whether you’re filling stockings, spoiling clients, or adding local flavour to the Christmas table, Kytons makes it way too easy to tick everyone off the list – and make this year a proudly SA-made and delicious Christmas.

Boxes packed, bows tied, friends happy, and no panic required.
