This SA Distiller Has Been Named Distillery of the Year

Their spirits are imbued with a rich history and modern attitude that has resulted in the Riverland institution becoming an instant classic in Australia’s liquor scene.

South Australia’s liquor industry has just had another huge win.

Renmark’s boutique distillers Twenty Third Street Distillery have been awarded the national award of Distiller of the Year in the Vintage Cellars Best of Awards.

The Vintage Cellars ‘Best of Awards’ is an annual celebration of the year’s best wines, beers and spirits.

With a premium range of creative gins, vodkas, brandies and whiskeys, it is the dynamic mix of old and new that sets Twenty Third Street Distillery apart from its competitors.

Twenty Third Street Distillery is the new incarnation of a century-old landmark in the beautiful rural township of Renmark.

The elaborate distillery was built in 1914 by the Barossa Valley’s Chateau Tanunda to take advantage of burgeoning Riverland harvests.

At the heart of Twenty Third Street Distillery is a pair of heritage South Australian-built copper pot stills.

Found gathering cobwebs at Berri Estate, the stills were once part of Hardy’s Reynella and Tintara in McLaren Vale, and were responsible for producing the grandfather of Australian brandy, the iconic Black Bottle Brandy.

With these classic stills at the helm, Twenty Third Street Distillery was intended to produce brandy, reinvigorating the category with award- winning Not Your Nanna’s Brandy. However, the distillers quickly found favour in gin – launching their Signature, Barrel Aged and Navy Strength Gins to glowing reviews and industry acclaim.

Staying true to their Riverland roots, the distillery released its Riverland Rose Vodka to support the Renmark Rose Festival and honour their neighbours and the largest rose garden in Australia, Ruston’s Roses. The bold, botanical vodka is infused with handpicked rose petals and has been recognised internationally as one of the world’s top spirits.

Master Distiller, Graham Buller, says

“Provenance is key when it comes to Twenty Third Street Distillery, we strive to create modern, innovative and unique products with a compelling, credible story and unique experience.”

An Adelaide CBD expression of the Riverland distillery, Twenty Third Street Distillery on Melbourne, opened in 2018, delivering a unique experience based on the Renmark Distillery. Guests can take a virtual reality 360-tour, enjoy cocktails and light food offerings, or take part in gin blending and cocktail masterclasses at the experience bar located in the heart of North Adelaide.

With the recently opened Adelaide CBD expression, collaboration with the Renmark Visitor Centre, a commercial kitchen prepped for mid- 2019, and talks of inspired future innovations, it seems that there is no slowing down for the Vintage Cellars 2019 Distillery of the Year.
