The popular Vegan Festival Adelaide will be paused in 2025, with organisers pointing to the current economic climate, coupled with personal tragedies within the team, as the deciding factors. The event plans to return “stronger than ever in 2026,” using this year to regroup, reflect and rebuild.
“This festival has never been just an event,” says organiser Lea McBride.
“It’s a home, a movement, and a deeply personal project created with love — for the animals, the planet, and our incredible community. We do not want this festival to end. The cause is far too important to us.”
Established in 2007 and set on the beautiful Rundle Park/ Kadlitpina grounds, the Vegan Festival Adelaide has flourished into one of the largest and most popular vegan events in the Southern Hemisphere, attracting everyone from dedicated vegans to the “v-curious.”
It has garnered local and global recognition for its commitment to promoting plant-based living, achieving the Small Business Award in the Community Achievement Awards 2024 by Awards Australia, and Community Event of the Year at the Citizen of the Year Award Winners 2024 by the City of Adelaide.
Since 2015, the current organising team has brought together stallholders, chefs, speakers, musicians, activists, businesses, and thousands of attendees, creating Australia’s most awarded Vegan events.
Among them are Vegan Picnic, winter food event Vegan Palooza, Vegan Film Festival, and the popular Vegustation series.
“To all of our stallholders, volunteers, sponsors, speakers and supporters – thank you. You’ve helped create something truly special. This is not goodbye – it’s a pause. We’ll be back in 2026,” shares Lea.
In the meantime, the team urges everyone to continue supporting vegan businesses, advocating for animals, and building a kinder, more sustainable world – and stay connected via the Vegan Festival Adelaide website and social media for updates.
