Yep, you read that right! One of Adelaide’s hottest dessert bars has introduced a new Capybara-inspired treat to their menu, and we can’t get enough of this totally adorable viral treat.
Kaya Desserts on Hutt St opened earlier last year and has quickly become a hot spot for epic desserts and extravagant treats, and this one is no different.
First introduced to celebrate the arrival of the three capybara brothers—Lago, Iguazu, and Salvador to Adelaide Zoo, this Jiggly Capybara pudding has stuck around, becoming a favourite at the late-night dessert spot.
“I saw a post from Zoos SA sharing that they had capybara coming to the zoo, and our staff had been raving on about how cute they were,” shared Kaya Dessert’s owner Belle.
“We were doing a jiggly duck pudding before, so we thought we’d change it up a little bit to a capybara.”
The three capybara brothers, Lago, Iguazu and Salvador arrived at their new home at Adelaide Zoo from Sydney Zoo in January of this year. Capybaras are a highly social species, and these little guys are no different. This young and closely bonded trio are playful and full of energy, and their fun and lively antics are highly entertaining.
These guys live in both land and pond areas, and just like the real-life capybaras, Kaya Desserts has replicated the Capybara’s habitat with a crumble base, which is perfectly paired with the jelly-like chocolate pudding. For a dessert that’s as Instagram-worthy as it is delicious, this one’s a must-try!
“It’s a chocolate pudding that we garnish with Nutella, a cookie crumble, and milo sauce on top.”

Kaya Desserts was founded by Belle, an international student-turned-culinary entrepreneur, who has been bringing her love of cooking and family recipes to Adelaide. Along with Kaya Desserts, Belle also owns pop-up dessert bar Aromalay and Heng Heng 555+, bringing authentic Southeast Asian flavours from home to Adelaide.
On the menu at Kaya Desserts, you’ll also see this Southeast Asian influence, with a fusion of Malaysian, Cambodian, and other Southeast Asian flavours. On the menu, you’ll find signature dishes such as pandan toast, cookie butter toast, Milo Dinosaur bingsu, Thai tea bingsu, pandan lava bingsu, and the eye-catching pink volcano bingsu. Plus, with things like homemade soufflé pancakes and of course the jiggly puddings, there’s something for everyone.

Whether you’re eager to try the capybara pudding or another indulgent treat on the menu, Kaya Desserts offers a cozy setting where guests can truly explore an indulgent world of sweet treats. If you’re a dessert lover, KAYA Desserts is definitely a spot to check out.
