Jazz lovers can now look forward to a metropolis experience with The Helpmann Academy presenting New York jazz sensation The Hot Sardines exclusively in humble Adelaide for their debut Australian show in August.

The Hot Sardines Lead Singer Elizabeth Bougerol and Bandleader Evan Palazzo will perform with the top graduating jazz musiciansfrom the Elder Conservatorium of Music for the Helpmann Academy’s annual event A Night of Jazz, at the Hilton Adelaide.

The Helpmann Academy bring this highly sought after act direct from New York City exclusively for A Night of Jazz. The performance will be their first in Australia, and the only opportunity to see them perform while in the country. The prestigious event will include the presentation of Helpmann Academy’s 2018 Jazz Awards and will be hosted by ABC Radio Adelaide breakfast presenter, Ali Clarke.

Fuelled by the belief that classic jazz feeds the heart and soul, the Hot Sardines are on a mission to make old sounds new again and prove that joyful music can bring people together in a disconnected world. In their skilful hands, music first made famous decades ago comes alive through brassy horn arrangements, rollicking piano melodies, and vocals from a chanteuse who transports listeners to a different era with the mere lilt of her voice.

The Hot Sardines have been featured at the Newport and Montreal Jazz Festivals, have sold out NYC venues from Joe’s Pub to the famous Bowery Ballroom and more than 150 tour dates from Chicago to London, and have released two albums on Universal Music Classics to critical raves and a No. 1 slot on the iTunes Jazz chart in the U.S. and internationally.

In preparation for the performance, the graduating musicians will participate in a series of exclusive masterclasses with Lead Singer Elizabeth Bougerol and Bandleader Evan Palazzo. The masterclasses are part of the Helpmann Academy Cultivate Series, aiming to provide students and graduates with unique and invaluable opportunities to work with a diverse range of professional artists to develop their skills and experience.

Certainly a young South Aussie who is being given the attention he deserves is Alex Flood who is to be awarded the Helpmann Academy’s most prestigious, richest and coveted national Jazz award! He has performed in WOMADelaide, Adelaide Fringe and Cabaret Festivals, and the Australia’s Ultimate Drummers Weekend. Alex is a regular in several jazz and contemporary music ensembles and the award winning prodigy will also be performing alongside NYC’s Hot Sardines on the night.

If you’re a jazz lover then you can’t miss this night of prestige and frivolity!
