Seppeltsfield Road Distillers Awarded 17 Medals In Six Months

A local and international win for the six-month-old distillery in the heart of the Barossa!

A six-month-old gin distillery from one of the world’s best-known food and wine regions is making waves on the local and international awards circuit.

Seppeltsfield Road Distillers, masterminded by Nicole and Jon Durdin, opened its doors in the Barossa in September 2018 and made history by being the first commercial Barossa gin house to produce a true Barossa-made gin.

Since officially releasing its first three gins six months ago, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers has collected a staggering 17 medals across its portfolio, as well as being named Australian Gin Distillery of the Year at the Melbourne International Spirits Competition last year!

The most recent wins were at Tasting Australia, the Australian Gin Awards, Australian Distilled Spirit Awards, and the American Distilling Awards.

The results of Tasting Australia Spirit Awards were released this month and Seppeltsfield Rd Distillers was awarded a gold medal for Savoury Allsorts and a bronze for Barossa Dry and House Gin. Seppeltsfield Rd Distillers also received a silver for its limited release gin, Appellation, created in collaboration with Appellation at The Louise Restaurant, specifically for this year’s Tasting Australia event.

The inaugural Australian Gin Awards were held in February 2019 and saw Seppeltsfield Road Distillers gins judged alongside 180 submissions from 66 distilleries. Here, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers received a gold for the limited release Barossa Shiraz Gin (now sold out) and silver medals for the Barossa Dry, House Gin, and Savoury Allsorts.

Arguably the most exciting accolades are the medals collected at the American Distilling Institute Awards, the oldest and largest competition for craft spirits in the world. Seppeltsfield Road Distillers was awarded medals for its full range of gins, including a silver medal for Savoury Allsorts.

Not to be overlooked are the awards received at the Australian Distilled Spirits Awards this month, with Barossa Dry, House Gin, and Savoury Allsorts all receiving medals.

Nicole and Jon are thrilled that their hard work has paid off.

“The initial recognition from consumers and spirits professionals alike in our first months of operation has given us huge confidence in ourselves and our gins,” they said.

The next release of the limited Barossa Shiraz gin, the 2019 vintage, will be offered to mailing list members first in May. Gin-lovers can join this list via the website. The Appellation gin is available now through the tasting room and Appellation at The Louise.

If the quality of gin is not a good enough reason to visit, Seppeltsfield Road Distillers features one of the best decks in the Barossa and a magnificent view of Barossa’s western ridge. A must-visit when next visiting the Barossa!
