In the office, we’re big fans of the great SA wineries that are scattered across our State and it’s no secret that we love sharing our favourite wine events, wineries, and wines with our readers. It should be little surprise then, that we’ve discovered another fantastic wine bar, and we’ve been busting to share it with you.
If you live South of the city, the options of what to do after dark become more limited as you edge away from the CBD. Head down the expressway, and those options diminish even further. One little gem of a place has been flourishing however, and it’s a secret we wanted to share with you.
Tucked away on Beach Road in Christies Beach is the Finniss River Cellar Door. Stocked full of amazing wine from their winery over by Currency Creek, the cellar door is a drawcard for locals and tourists alike, who take advantage of their free wine tastings, great cheese platters and fantastic service, in an otherwise suburban area.
When the Cellar Door opened in Christies Beach, with its proximity to the coast, it became the closest cellar door to the beach in Australia. Offering a unique experience from small intimate tastings through to larger groups, you can also just sit down and enjoy a relaxing glass of wine and a cheese plate.
Finniss River Wines have been receiving accolades and awards, both national and international, culminating in the 2015 Shiraz winning Gold at the 2016 Royal Adelaide Wine Show. The actual vineyard is located 75kms south of Adelaide, and produces their award-winning Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The cellar door is slightly more central, and serves as a handy stopping point for those en route to McLaren Vale or beyond.
Once the sun sets on the cellar door however, the venue takes on new life, turning into a wine bar with live music and even the occasional drag show. Spend the night wining and dining on the deck under the fairy lights at sunset.
With a beautiful atmosphere, beach views, cold beers, local wines, cheese platters, great service, and good vibes, it’s one the best kept secrets in the southern region!

The cellar door is open from 10-5 daily, and the wine bar kicks off on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons/evenings till late.
