This week’s forecast: Adelaide braces for frosts and a chilly week ahead

Adelaide faces severe frost warnings with temperatures plunging as low as -4°C to kick off the week. Here’s what’s ahead.

Adelaide residents are encouraged to prepare for a cold start to the week as severe frost warnings are issued across various regions. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has alerted that Monday morning will see temperatures plummet to as low as -4 degrees Celsius in the Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East, and Lower South East districts. These conditions pose a significant risk of damage to crops. Lighter frosts are also expected in the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Mid North, where temperatures could reach -2 degrees Celsius.

The forecast for Monday, 29 July, in Adelaide is mostly sunny following a frosty start, with an expected maximum of 15 degrees Celsius and minimal wind activity. By midday, winds are predicted to pick up slightly coming from a north to northeasterly direction at 15 to 20 km/h before easing again.

In terms of sun protection, residents are advised to take precautions between 12:20 pm and 1:20 pm, with the UV Index set to reach a moderate level of 3.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the weather is set to gradually warm. Tuesday promises mostly sunny skies once again, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 6 degrees to a maximum of 16 degrees. Sun protection will be necessary for a slightly shorter window, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Wednesday will see a shift to partly cloudy conditions, maintaining light winds with temperatures continuing their gradual rise to a minimum of 7 degrees and a maximum of 17 degrees. Sun protection times will adjust accordantly, recommended from 11:30 am to 1:10 pm.

By Thursday, 1 August, the region will enjoy full sunshine, with temperatures expected to rise further, pushing the mercury to 18 degrees maximum after an 8-degree start. Light winds in the morning will later accelerate to a northeasterly direction at speeds of 15 to 25 km/h.

The weather pattern will take a turn on Friday, as chances of showers increase dramatically to 70%. The day will see a mix of cloudy skies, with possible rainfall amounts ranging between 0 to 3mm. Temperature will remain relatively constant with a minimum of 10 degrees and a maximum of 18 degrees, but winds will grow stronger, shifting from north to northeasterly at 25 to 35km/h in the morning before changing to a north to northwesterly direction at 15 to 25km/h later in the day.

The weekend outlook continues the trend of showers with a 60% chance of rain both on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s temperatures will cool slightly, varying between 8 and 15 degrees, with similar conditions expected on Sunday, although the minimum temperature will dip further to 7 degrees. Residents can anticipate moderate wind conditions throughout the weekend, culminating in westerly winds of 20 to 30 km/h by Sunday morning.
