Three Little Birds launches with Australian botanical gin distillery

Inspiration for Three Little Birds came when Adelaide couple, Leigh and Lisa-Marie, heard a Triple J cover of the seminal Bob Marley classic.

COVID-19 gave us many things, including a lot more downtime during snap lockdowns and isolation periods.

While some of us may have taken up a new hobby or finally got round to that DIY project that has been on our to-do list for years, one Adelaide couple, Leigh Brown and Lisa-Marie Gordon, took COVID-induced productivity to a whole new level, launching South Australia’s newest gin brand: Three Little Birds Distillery.

Described as quintessentially Australian in flavour, Three Little Birds differs from a dry London gin, offering a more floral taste with delicious flavours of juniper coriander and vanilla, as well as native Australian ingredients such as lemon myrtle and strawberry gum.

Inspired by the iconic Bob Marley anthem, spreading peace, love and happiness, the couple studied gin distillation intensely to launch their brand, with Leigh bringing years of hospitality experience to the project having run Oxford’s oldest cocktail bar in the UK for five years, and owning previous Hindley Street favourites Elysium Lounge and Supermild.

Leigh and Lisa-Marie are delighted to finally be bringing their passion project to market, with the new gin available to purchase on their website by the end of June.

“We wanted not only to create something that we were passionate about, but something that was commercially viable and pandemic-proof – people always love a drink!” says Leigh.

“We want Three Little Birds to be a locally-focused brand that isn’t just all about gin but also has a real charitable ethos that gives back to the Adelaide community that inspired us.”

The couple are currently running a rewards-based crowd-funding campaign for the next nine days to purchase a fancy new still that will enable them to create larger batches of Three Little Birds, which is currently made in three flavours: Signature Gin, a blackberry and lemon-infused Bramble Gin and Navy Strength which sits at 58% ABV.

Donating to the crowd-funding campaign can take the form of purchasing a bottle of Three Little Birds, exclusive brand merchandise or a tasting session with the founders, or even exclusive access to their launch party in mid-July. Any pledges will also place people into an exclusive and limited access, ‘Little Hatchlings Club’, providing first rights to any future new flavours the couple produce, and other rewards.

For a Three Little Bird perfect serve add a splash of the Signature Gin to tonic, with refreshingly zesty garnishes of lemon peel and thyme over ice in a tall glass.

For those who don’t love tonic, substitute for soda water, Lisa-Marie’s preferred serve!

With no plans to slow down post-launch, the team at Three Little Birds are currently in exciting talks finalising the opening of a brand new cellar door, which will offer all-day food as well as gin tastings.
