Three SA venues named finalists in Australian Interior Design Awards

Three South Australian venues have landed finalist spots in the 2025 Australian Interior Design Awards, showcasing bold and imaginative interiors that turned heads over the past year.

Three South Australian venues have been named finalists in the 2025 Australian Interior Design Awards, shining a spotlight on the state’s most fascinating fit outs of the year passed.

All three South Australian projects were created by Adelaide-based firm Studio Gram. What a spectacular year!

Studio Gram is an award-winning architecture and interior design practice founded in 2014 by Dave Bickmore and Graham Charbonneau. The studio is known for balancing the familiar with the unexpected, and for creating thoughtful, narrative-driven spaces.

But onto the shortlist: The three SA finalists for Hospitality Design were… drumroll please… Coopers Brand Home, Latteria, and Monarto Safari Resort.

The Australian Interior Design Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in interior design across the country. Established in 2004, the program is a partnership between the Design Institute of Australia and Architecture Media. Open to Australian-based design professionals, the awards welcome projects from anywhere in the world.

The program is independently run and not-for-profit, with a judging process that is anonymous, peer-reviewed, and held to international standards. Recognition through the awards brings national and international attention, with shortlisted and awarded projects featured in a permanent online gallery.

Winners will be announced at a gala event in Melbourne on 7 June. For now, here’s a rundown on the SA finalists for Hospitality Design.

Coopers Brand Home

Coopers Brand Home Aerial View from Regency Road

Coopers Brand Home has been shortlisted for its new $70 million Regency Park headquarters. The project was billed as a contemporary reimagining of a brewery. Taking this as its brief, the design steers clear of typical pub stylings, instead embracing clarity, simplicity, and functionality.

The space brings together history and innovation in a distinctly South Australian setting. Interiors by Studio Gram focus on natural textures, subtle references to brewing, and thoughtful zoning that guides guests through each experience.

From the tasting room to the distillery, each area has been crafted to feel connected yet distinct. The result is a venue that feels both considered and unexpected.

Latteria

Latteria, also on the shortlist, draws design inspiration from traditional Milanese latterias. In Italian, “latteria” means a dairy shop, selling milk, cheese, and butter.

If you’ve been to the venue, you know how beautifully the interior uses lighting to create a warm, vibrant space—perfect for a Campari (if you’re anything like me).

Latteria gave itself the task of transforming a former TAB and bank into a refined, tasteful bar. Designed, again, by Studio Gram, the venue blends diner, bar, and deli elements within a 318-square-metre space.

The interior was stripped back to reveal its original structure, including concrete floors and precast walls. This raw foundation was softened with polished chrome, coloured leather, and warm timber, creating an oxymoronic space that feels both industrial and cosy.

A central island bar anchors the layout, while thoughtful zoning, stained-glass windows, and varied seating areas enhance flow and atmosphere.

There are also nooks and crannies scattered across the venue for piles of vinyl records and a semi-secluded booth for a set of DJ decks. It’s all about atmosphere for this finalist.

Monarto Safari Resort

The third South Australian finalist, Monarto Safari Resort, brings a slice of Africa to the heart of the Murraylands. Designed, once again, by Studio Gram, the interiors layer earthy tones, eclectic textures, and natural materials like Kanmantoo Bluestone and Harlequin Granite. The look is rich, grounded, and unmistakably tied to South Australia’s mallee landscape.

Opening this May, the $40 million resort is set within the vast Wild Africa precinct at Monarto Safari Park. Guests can wake to the sight of giraffes on the plains, spot cheetahs at dusk, or unwind in one of 78 luxury rooms overlooking sweeping grasslands.

From safari tours in custom vehicles to evenings by the pool or time out in the spa, the experience is immersive without losing comfort. Designed for families, couples, and groups, it offers space to relax, explore, and reconnect with nature.

Each stay also helps fund vital conservation work, making this getaway one that gives back to the animals that call Monarto home.
