The stunning Fleurieu Peninsula town of Port Elliot is a popular destination for holiday-goers over the summer break and beyond, with many flocking to the coastal region to enjoy the sunshine and the sand.

If you’re looking to refuel after a day in the sun, Thunderbird Restaurant and Bar in The Strand main strip of Port Elliot is the place to visit for a delicious meal or refreshing cocktail.

Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, their menu has a strong focus on fresh and regional produce, with seafood and tapas options a feature of their menu.

Share plates including cured ocean trout, field mushroom and parmesan croquettes, and heirloom beetroot salad provide a satisfying selection of small serves to entertain any size group.

Their larger meal options include bush pepper fried SA squid, seared yellowfin tuna and chargrilled kangaroo loin, completing the needs of seafood lovers and meat-eaters alike.

A weekend breakfast menu includes their romesca brekky with poached eggs, avocado and halloumi with a romesca sauce, as well as their Thunderbird big breakfast, and waffles if you indulge in a sweet tooth in the morning.

“Our wine list focuses on the region, plus we have an extensive international wine offering”, owner Campbell Haig says.

Wines highlighting lesser-known areas and quality boutique producers from Mt Jagged, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek, plus imported varieties from France and Italy feature on their bar menu, as well as a large selection of craft beer, spirits and signature cocktails.

The concept behind Thunderbird was simple, “we wanted to create a meal option that wasn’t currently offered”, says Campbell.

“It was an opportunity to complement an already flourishing main street community and add to the many reasons why Port Elliot should be top of the to-do list for anyone staying in or passing through the region”.

With reclaimed red-brick walls, natural timbers, polished concrete floors and modern-Danish furniture, the interior of the restaurant has that comfortable and relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a meal with friends or family.

Their outdoor deck area overlooks the buzzing main strip, where patrons can sit outside to enjoy the fresh Port Elliot sea air and sun, making it a must-visit on your next trip to the coastal suburb.
