The new Brisbane-Whitsunday Coast services are being facilitated by an additional (third) A320 aircraft, which arrived overnight to be based in Brisbane moving forward, creating an additional 50 Brisbane based jobs (cabin crew/pilots/ground staff).
Tigerair Australia Head of Communications Vanessa Regan says there has never been a better time to fly Tigerair and the airline is confident the new services will be warmly embraced by consumers.
“The Sunshine State is an integral part of our network with over 50% of all Tigerair domestic services touching Queensland. The new services between Brisbane and the Whitsunday Coast add to this, delivering almost 80,000 additional visitor seats through both airports annually and providing a further welcome boost for Queensland tourism and the economy.
“Our great value fares stimulate and grow the air travel market in Australia.  It’s a win- win for everyone – consumers, tourism and the economy. We are proud to consistently deliver on our promise of providing affordable and reliable services- coupled with great customer service. Tigerair has recorded the lowest cancellation rate of all major domestic airlines over the previous two calendar years and has also been Australia’s most punctual low cost carrier over the same period of time, ensuring our product is a great value, reliable option for travellers.

“I would like to extend our thanks to Brisbane Airport and Whitsunday Coast Airport for their support in making these new services a reality.”
Andrew Brodie, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) General Manager Aviation and Retail Management, said, “It is nearly seven years to the day when Tigerair first came to Brisbane,  launching services to three destinations and firmly heralding its presence in the market with its renowned low fares on more than half a million seats on offer in its first year.
“Today, Tigerair offers nearly 1.3 million seats annually between Brisbane and five national destinations, while making an enormous investment in our city and state by permanently basing three aircraft here.
“Tigerair’s commitment to Brisbane and Queensland is clear and it’s travellers who are reaping the benefits with the additional choice, flexibility and competitive pricing Tigerair brings to the market,” Mr Brodie said.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said the additional flights and increased visitor seats would provide a significant boost for accommodation houses, tour and transport operators, restaurants and retail businesses in the region.
“It is certainly happy days in the Whitsundays so far in 2017 and the new direct morning return service from Brisbane is a massive vote of confidence in our region by Tigerair.
“As owners of Whitsunday Coast Airport this council has worked closely with Tigerair to secure the new flights which will also provide better connectivity for overseas visitors.
“Basically more choice and availability of flights makes it easier for international tourists to visit our region,” Mayor Willcox said.
To celebrate the new route launch, Tigerair, with support from Whitsunday Regional Council, has provided five families with a free overnight trip to Brisbane, including seats on the first Whitsunday Coast-Brisbane service, accommodation, transfers, and a day of sightseeing on top of the SkyPoint Observation Deck on the Gold Coast.
The families were chosen as part of a promotion, which called for the community to nominate a family who deserved a break. Video of the special trip will be available on the Tigerair Australia and Whitsunday Regional Council Facebook pages in the coming days.
Extra services on existing Queensland routes will also commence by the end of the month, including four additional weekly return services between Brisbane and Cairns, two additional return services between Sydney and Whitsunday Coast Airport and a weekly return service between Brisbane and Adelaide.
Together with the new Brisbane – Whitsunday Coast services and increased Sydney – Whitsunday Coast services commencing this month, Tigerair Australia will fly up to 10 weekly return services through Whitsunday Coast airport, providing close to 200,000 visitor seats annually through Whitsunday Coast Airport in total.
From 1 June 2017, Tigerair will also operate the only low cost services between Brisbane and Perth with a standard schedule of four weekly return services, increasing up to six times weekly in peak periods such as school holidays.
