Timothy Sexton Announced as Head of the State Opera of SA

Ms Elizabeth Raupach OAM, Chair of The State Opera, today announced the appointment of Timothy Sexton as the new Head of the State Opera of SA. The role encompasses the responsibilities of both Artistic Director and CEO.

Timothy Sexton has been closely involved with the State Opera for over 20 years, in a variety of roles including Music Administrator, Singer, Conductor and Chorus Master. His innovative work has included collaborations with Leigh Warren and Dancers as well as other performing arts companies. In 2001 he founded the Adelaide Art Orchestra, comprised of some of the top professional freelance musicians in the state. Mr Sexton’s contribution to the arts in SA was recognised in 2008 when he won the Premier’s Ruby Award for Sustained Contribution to the Arts by an Individual and again in 2009 when he was named SA Great South Australian of the Year in the Arts category.

Ms Raupach said that Mr Sexton has proven his ability to combine the new and innovative with well-loved old favourites.

“He will be able to build on the specialist programming that has given this unique Company its status in the Australian performing arts scene,” she said.

Mr Sexton will take up his position in July.
