Christian Dior once said that a woman’s perfume tells more about her than her handwriting. If that’s the case, Tina Arena must exude the sweet and intoxicating scent of confidence and old-worldly elegance.
Arena, an Australian and French music icon of her own right, is collaborating with WA-based company, Atlas Pearls, and Perfumes Limited, to create her first luxury fragrance.
Together, the two powerhouses will use the finest French and Australian perfume extracts (so fine are Atlas Pearls and Perfumes’ extracts, in fact, that they are used in Yves St Laurent, Estee Lauder and Christian Dior perfumes) to concoct a luxury perfume that sings to the tune of Arena’s nostalgia.
Arena describes the perfume as “a blend of beauty from both countries,” and says she is inspired by the memory of her mother’s love of fragrance, and of Jean Patou, whose French fashion and perfume house was behind fragrances such as the 1930s scent Joy.
In her 40 years in the music industry, Arena has not once lent her name to a brand. “This is not a typical celebrity fragrance but an artistic collaboration,” says Mr Stephen Birkbeck, Executive Chairman and CEO of Atlas. Tina took two years to come to the decision to collaborate and, since then, “she has been the key decision maker on all aspects of the fragrance, the bottle and the philosophy.”
In addition to the perfume, Arena will also be designing a jewellery capsule for Atlas. The collection will use pearls, and will reflect Arena’s own personal style and finesse.
Though she says she’ll never leave the music world, she is “enjoying being able to diversify with this collaboration, taking it one step at a time.”
Her new endeavors in the luxury goods market are certainly intriguing. We look forward to seeing and smelling the gorgeous fruits of her labour.
