Bring life back to your Christmas decorations with these handy tips and tricks

With Christmas right around the corner, the yearly Christmas decor will be getting unpacked really soon. Every year with the tinsel topped tree and red, green and gold ball-balls and table settings. Just because the festive season is an annual event doesn’t mean we can’t spice up traditions (life would be pretty dull if we didn’t).

Metricon Homes Interior Designer, Jacinta Evans, was extra kind this year and gave out early X-mas prezzies. And seeing as this season is all about giving we’re going to share the useful tips we were given on how to get two stunning Christmas table setting with a twist.

Scandinavian Festive Table

  1. Scandinavian styling is about celebrating the bright and light, so by introducing timber elements to your Christmas table setting you’ll add warmth to your room.
  2. To create a glowing ambience and really highlight your setting opt for silver or gold decorations.
  3. If you want to stray from traditional the traditional red and green colour palettes, try navy or monochrome ornaments, which are a great alternate colour combination and pair back perfectly with neutrals.
  4. More is more when you’re styling a Christmas table. Utilising elements of florals or greenery adds another ‘on trend’ addition to your table.
  5. Decorations can be used as place cards for guests (and also as a keepsake for family and friends to take home to remember your celebration).
  6. Pile decorations high in an ornamental bowl or various size vases to make an easy and effective table centrepiece. You can also look to cluster groups of filled vases and scented candles to create a wow factor down your hallway or on tables throughout the home.
  7. Add sprigs of rosemary, holly or pine to your napkin holders as a great way to also introduce a subtle Christmas scent to your room.

Global Fusion Table

  1. Global Fusion is a great way to incorporate any personal homewares into your Christmas table. It’s all about showcasing your treasured trinkets that you have collected over the years.
  2. Play with colour. Perhaps try the combinations of fuchsia and gold, red, navy and silver or emerald green and rose gold.
  3. Create interest with a material table runner that celebrates texture and print. But, the trick here is to seamlessly clash classic colours with modern prints to create a vibrant setting.
  4. Mix and match your glassware, cutlery and dinnerware – it adds yet another element of interest. Gold and copper cutlery and serve ware is very on trend this season and can easily become a staple in your cutlery collection.
  5. Mini pine trees down the centre of your Christmas table bring instant Christmas spirit to your home, as well as adding perfume. You could also top each mini pine tree with ribbon bows in different colours for an eclectic finishing touch.
  6. Jewelled or metallic trinkets and framed favourite family photos can be incorporated down the table as a unique personal touch and again will create another talking point amongst guests.
