Maggie Beer will join with Andre Ursini at his Cucina & Polenta Bar in Adelaide today to launch a new campaign to help hungry children in the developing world by Plan International Australia.

Chair of Plan in Australia’s board of directors, Adelaide-based Anne Skipper, said the event will raise funds for Plan’s emergency food distributions in South Sudan, Zimbabwe, & Ethiopia, and will officially launch the From Cup to Crop Campaign in South Australia. Plan works in 49 developing countries around the world.

Over 14,000 restaurants across Australia have been invited to participate in From Cup to Crop, (www.fromcuptocrop.com.au) a campaign that focuses on Australia’s love of food to raise money and awareness for people in places where food is not so abundant. Some of Australia’s brightest names in food have leant their voices to the campaign. People like Maggie Beer, Luke Mangan, Christine Manfield, Manu Feildel and Pete Evans.

“We need more food based businesses in Adelaide to join the campaign” said Anne Skipper. Restaurants will begin raising money for the campaign on March 15 through to April 15.

Andre Ursini will be taking the From Cup to Crop Challenge which begins tomorrow. For the month of March, some of Australia’s top foodies, writers and bloggers will embark on this challenge, attempting to live on just $3 a day for one day a week. The Challenge highlights the fact that $3 can feed a child in a developing country for ten days.

“It will give participants an insight into the type of choices that people who struggle with poverty and hunger are faced with every day,” says Anne Skipper. “Challengers will talk, blog and tweet about their experience and people are encouraged to follow their progress online and show support by donating to the campaign”.

Plan International Australia aims to raise $800,000 during From Cup to Crop. Today’s launch event is sold out.
