A new experience from one of the Barossa’s most respected wineries is giving guests the chance to go beyond the tasting bench and into the heart of winemaking itself.
The Torbreck Immersion is a full-day, private journey designed for collectors and connoisseurs, an intimate exploration of vineyard history, barrel hall blending, and the philosophy that defines Torbreck.
The morning begins at Hillside Vineyard in Lyndoch, first planted in the 1850s and barely changed since. The heritage-listed stone winery sits quietly among 170-year-old vines, their roots tangled in the red earth that’s made this patch of the valley so famous. You’ll wander the grounds, taste from the estate, and hear how these vines – some of the oldest in the region – still form the backbone of Torbreck’s best-known wines.

After a quick 20-minute drive through some of the prettiest parts of the valley, the second half of the afternoon unfolds at Torbreck’s Marananga Cellar Door. Inside the barrel hall, guests taste straight from the cask before learning the art (and science) of blending Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, the trio behind Torbreck’s signature GSM, The Steading. The day winds down with a private, seated tasting of Torbreck’s top drops, paired with cheese, snacks and plenty of conversation and debrief.
The Torbreck Immersion runs for about five hours in total — half the day at Hillside, half at Marananga — and costs $390 per person. It’s made for small groups (two to six people) and can be booked in advance. You’ll drive yourself between venues, but Torbreck can sort you out with local driver recommendations or point you toward a great lunch spot if you’re making a full day of it.

Like everything Torbreck does, this experience is about connection, quality and patience. Their vineyards (some dating back to the 1840s) are treated with the kind of care that comes from generations of knowing when to wait and when to harvest. Led by Pete and Terri Kight and Chief Winemaker Ian Hongell, the Torbreck team has created an intimate way to see the Barossa through their eyes. It’s built for collectors and connoisseurs, sure, but you don’t need to be either to feel like one by the end of the day.
