Adelaide’s rich design history is set to be showcased as part of a walking tour that will explore the unique house styles and architectural trends of the city’s inner suburbs.
The one-hour tour will be hosted by real estate icon Robin Turner as part of the Adelaide History Festival. With more than 25 years of experience in the real estate industry, Mr Turner said the tour will give participants an understanding of the different house styles at the heart of Adelaide’s identity, and a valuable insight into the designs that have stood the test of time.
“People are always fascinated about what makes our different house styles so unique and going for a leisurely walk around Wayville showcases some of Adelaide’s oldest and also newest properties,” Mr Turner said.
“The walking tour was actually started last year as part of the Every Generation Festival, but after several booked out, and there was interest from the Adelaide History Festival to run them again, we’ve kicked off the tours again.”
“If you’ve ever wondered what makes a villa special, or the origins of the bungalow, come along to this free event which will be extremely informative and fun.”
Mr Turner is the co-author of House Styles in Adelaide which was written around 30 years ago by the Real Estate Institute of SA and the Australian Property Institute as a tribute to evolving Adelaide housing.
“Being a valuer by profession, followed by 25 years as an agent, I’ve seen so many wonderful examples of housing. Our homes have such character and the Adelaide History Festival is a great partner to showcase this history with,” Mr Turner said.
The one-hour walking tour will be held on Wednesday 3 May at 10am and leave fromTurner Real Estate, 49 Greenhill Road, Wayville. People are invited to attend a morning tea after the walk and chat further about the housing styles and designs.
