Travel The World In Two Hours With These Whisky Flights

Adelaide’s premier whisky destination has launched its new scotch flights and there are a variety of options to please all whisky lovers!

There’s nothing better than a glass of whisky to end a long day, and boy George, The Rob Roy Hotel, Adelaide’s premier whisky destination, know what they’re doing. Having created five brand new whisky flights for peaty or smooth fans, with Scotch still the primary focus, it also has new world options from Australia and Japan on offer.

These include three half nips over the bar or five half nips as part of their hosted whisky tastings. Glam Adelaide was lucky enough to try one of the new flights which included a smooth nuanced Balvenie 14yr (definitely our pick), Glenlivit Nadurra and the intense Auchenstoshan “Three Wood.

Whisky ambassador, Blake Hocking, is especially excited about the new whiskies that are en route to the bar (and then en route to our mouths): the smokey Ardberg Uigeadail, Octomore 7.2, and the smooth, refined Hazelburn from the Springbank Distillery in Scotland.

Blake says the Uigeadail is an attempt to “cut the corners” off the smoky classic Ardberg 10, to create a slightly smoother scotch. The Octomore range is an “ultra peaty whisky” with the brand branching out with a “red wine cask finish.” The Hazelburn is unique because of the far south west Scottish environment which yields “extremely smooth whisky with notes of pear and honey”. Blake is more than happy to do a Hazelburn flight to showcase their unique range, and we’d recommend this for people looking for softer, more nuanced scotch.

To finish, Blake put together a sumptuous whisky sour, selecting the well-balanced Bowmore as the scotch base along with other classic ingredients. The Bowmore blended beautifully without overpowering the cocktail and the final result was well worth coming back for!

The hotel also does a special tailored whisky degustation including oysters, pork belly with spiced apple sauce, and, interestingly enough, desserts. In fact, Blake insists that there’s nothing better than a smoky Laphroaig and icecream (and we’re inclined to agree with him).
