Tomorrow, trek 17km in Operation Flinders’ new City to Summit charity event

On Thursday October 7, participants will set off from Victoria Square on an epic 17km trek through Adelaide’s suburbs, climbing to the lofty heights of the scenic Adelaide Hills.

Operation Flinders Foundation is celebrating 30 years of transforming the lives of South Australia’s youth by launching a new fundraising event “City to Summit”.

On Thursday October 7, The City to Summit expedition walk will bring the experiences of the Foundation’s core program to Adelaide in an event that will immerse participants in an action-packed afternoon of true stamina endurance.

Glam Adelaide are partnering with the event and taking on the summit to support the life-changing program for at-risk kids and we encourage all to join and donate.

Operation Flinders is an incredible SA organisation that uses an army of dedicated volunteers to roll out programs for hundreds of young people who come from challenging and difficult backgrounds.

Their 8-day outback early intervention program provides activities designed to open the minds of young people and challenge them to grow, build confidence and learn the value of self-worth.

Throughout the October fundraising event, participants will learn about Indigenous culture, and hear stories from the young people of the Operation Flinders program.

The five hour walk as a part of Operation Flinders will start off at 12:30pm at Victoria Square and follow an epic 17km trek through Adelaide’s suburbs, climbing to the lofty heights of the scenic Adelaide Hills.

During the walk, participants will stop at designated locations and complete Operation Flinders activities, making the trek a true bonding experience for teams while walking through some of the most beautiful locations in our city and surrounding suburbs.

It will finish at Woodhouse, with a well-deserved rest around the campfire.

Key speakers Martin Heppell from The Resilience Project and event ambassador Heath Jamieson – previously an Australian Commando, will join the participants and share their stories of resilience.

Participants in the City to Summit event will spend the night under a sleeping tarp called a ‘hutchie’ – which is what the young people sleep under during their time on the program in the Flinders.

Operation Flinders challenges you to form a team and raise much-needed funds to transform the lives of young people in South Australia.

Proceeds from the event will go directly to the program to ensure Operation Flinders continues to transform the lives of young people in South Australia.

With the event on tomorrow, now is the time to register your team or go solo for this overnight adventure that will help some of the state’s most vulnerable young people.
