Interview: Tripod’s Scott Edgar Reveals Details Of New Show ‘This Gaming Life’

Tripod seem to find success in whichever area they spread their wings, with their new show ‘This Gaming Life’ as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, their oddball humour is set to continue.

Tripod began in the Melbourne pub scene way back in the 90s and since then have been working and collaborating with a variety of musicians and others. They seem to find success in whichever area they spread their wings.

Talking with Scott Edgar prior to their up-coming performance with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, gave a little insight into the thinking around the development of this piece. Performed last year with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra the collaboration met with great success and is being eagerly anticipated by Adelaide fans.

Scott says the production, This Gaming Life, may have a gamer focus but is primarily about passion and friendship and is confidently under the baton of Austin Wintory who is responsible for the orchestration. Wintory is a composer for concerts, films and video games, Grammy nominated and a two-time BAFTA winner. His most recent work is another collaboration with Tripod on the score for the Assassins Creed Syndicate.

Scott was generous n his praise of Wintory and also Andrew Thompson of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra who performed this last year. He says it is an enjoyable show to do and it’s not just for gamers. He and his fellow Tripod members hope to tour it more, perhaps overseas.

It seems that this talented trio have several interesting productions to their name; Perfect Tripod – their collaboration with Eddie Perfect focusing on Australian songs, Lady Robots, and Tripod Versus the Dragon to mention only a few; also their TV and Radio credits. Scott and his fellow Tripod members Simon Hall (Yon) and Steven Gates (Gatesy) are probably best know to Adelaide audiences for their Festival appearances.

Scott is sure that the loyal fans (and soon to be fans) will enjoy this show. “It’s a beautiful show” he says, “full of scope and texture. A magic experience.”

One show only, Saturday 11th June 8pm at the Festival Theatre. For bookings, click here.
