Tucked away on the South Australian side of the SA/VIC boarder on the Limestone Coast, Coonawarra is home to some of Australia’s best wines.
To celebrate this the wine makers of the region are taking their wines on tour around the country, presenting ‘Cellar Door in the City: Coonawarra Wine Tasting Roadshow’.
Visiting Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and of course Adelaide at our National Wine Centre, the event will offer over 100 wines from all 27 Coonawarra wineries.
Some of the wineries coming to Adelaide are Petaluma, Wynns Coonawarra Estate, Yalumba, Zema Estate and more. Check out the full list here.
You can try a huge variety of wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Red Blends, Sparkling Reds, Sparkling Whites, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Rosé.
Your Cellar Door in the City ticket includes, entry, a souvenir wine glass, all wine tastings, meeting the winemakers and complimentary finger food.
The element that makes the Coonawarra region so special is it’s famous vineyard soil, Terra Rossa.
This soil paired with the a cool maritime climate, creates conditions ideal for growing world-class grapes, especially for producing cabernet sauvignon.
The soil influences the cabernet’s characteristics creating a unique blend of savoury elegance and structure from Europe, whilst also having the fruit purity, ripeness and concentration of Australia.
Coonawarra is a beautiful place that offers the essence of Australia. It’s packed with century-old eucalyptus trees full of native birds, as well as sheep and goats grazing between the vines.
The Coonawarra wine region has a rich history dating back to 1890, when John Riddoch planted the first vines. Since then, generations of families have carried on winemaking in the region.
