Two SA brands named in top 50 small businesses in the country

Freyja Tasci and Yovanka Loria of Yovanka Loria Extensions have been named in the top 50 small businesses in the country by Inside Small Business magazine.

Small business is the backbone of the Australian economy and a new report has just been released naming the Top 50 Small Business Leaders for 2022.

Each year, the report highlights the achievements of small business across the country and two South Australian companies have been recognised on a national scale by Inside Small Business Magazine

Freyja Tasci, founder of Apiwraps (Australia’s original beeswax wrap company) and Yovanka Loria of Yovanka Loria Extensions are flying the flag for South Australia.

Freyja operates her national sustainable wholesale business from Modbury North, with a network of major retail partners including ALDI and Woolworths.

Through her business, which has been operating for almost 10 years, she’s helped more than 400,000 homes get rid of cling wrap, saving more than 10 million metres of single-use plastic wrap. Freyja is on a mission to help all Australian families improve their sustainability, and reduce unnecessary waste.

“Apiwraps create a natural second skin on your fresh food with pure, chemical-free organic cotton coated with natural beeswax, gum resin and coconut oil,” Freyja says.

“Beeswax wraps make a natural waterproof barrier, sealing in freshness and breathing to maintain the natural vitality in fresh food. These natural products combine to provide the cleanest, natural food wrap for healthy eating and keep your foods fresh for longer. Fruit and vegetables, sandwiches, leftovers and cheeses are ready when you are.”

Meanwhile, Adelaide hairstylist Yovanka Loria opened her home salon in 2017 after her two kids had entered school.

Within 24 months, her business turned into a million-dollar global brand after she followed a hunch and developed a product line that is now not only coveted by women all over the world, but high-end salons are also scrambling to get their hands on.

The Top 50 Small Business Leaders report recognises small business leaders who have excelled in our key judging criteria of innovation, overcoming challenges, embracing sustainability and contributing to their local communities.

Tim Ladhams, editor of Inside Small Business said “Our Top 50 epitomise the resilience, innovation and agility needed to thrive as a small business in today’s challenging economic climate.”
