Colombia, dubbed the happiest place on Earth, is transporting itself to the Adelaide city centre this weekend, in the form of a Colombian Fiesta.
AZÚCAR “Latin Vibes” will be a fantastic introduction to Latin culture, featuring an exciting plethora of rhythms and plenty of opportunities to dance.
First moving to Adelaide three years ago, Esteban Villamil Bejarano from Cali, Colombia decided to launch the Independence Day party for his country right here in SA. Due to COVID restrictions, the event was unfortunately cancelled.
Now you can finally be immersed in a unique Latin American party experience, with the event kicking off this Saturday. Listen to salsa, bachata and reggaeton, all played by DJ Esteban himself.
“I am looking to throw a party that is different from the ones that are already in Adelaide,” said Esteban.
“My event is [the kind of] Colombian-inspired entertainment that I want to offer to Adelaide. At the event, people will find an exciting combination of rhythms, making our Colombians, Latinos, and Aussie Latin Lovers feel a unique Latin American party experience.”
Dancing has been a crucial part of Colombian culture for centuries. While the salsa and the merengue are extremely popular in the region, and will undoubtedly feature at AZÚCAR on Saturday, the dances are not native to the country.
Perhaps while you’re there, try your hand at some of the new Colombian dance variations coming through, such as the Champeta or Salsa Choke, which mixes traditional salsa with reggaeton and Afro-based rhythms.
Keep an eye out for Esteban’s future events, as his parties often involve free basic salsa dancing.
When: Saturday 18 June, from 9:00pm onwards
Cost: $10.00 per person (book here)
