Dust off your heirlooms and scour your basements for hidden gems, because Antique Roadshow is returning to Adelaide this month for South Australia’s 2026 History Festival, hosted by the City of Charles Sturt and held at Ngutungka Henley.
This year, the festival’s theme is ‘Connections’, which explores the extraordinary that can be uncovered in our everyday lives, connecting citizens through our shared history in a variety of talks, tours, exhibitions and workshops across SA.
History is an integral part of our lives, as it helps us to understand the past, acts as a guidebook for the present, and builds the framework for our futures. It’s more than just recording facts and listening to lectures in an old classroom with worn-out encyclopedias, it’s about recognising human behaviour and patterns, understanding cultural roots, and acknowledging the joys and sorrows of our ancestors. It’s a part of our own identity, just as much as the antiques and collectibles we hold dear.
On May 29, Lachlan Marshall from the Auction Rooms will cast an educated gaze over items of great value and importance for South Aussie’s statewide, united by their appreciation of history and connections.
That old pocket watch you’ve had in your dresser drawer for many years? That Art Deco vase that stands proudly on your mantle beside the photo of your great-grandparents? From jewellery and furniture, to books and decorative objects, items are considered genuine antiques if they are aged 100 years or over.
To have an object considered for appraisal, 3D images of the item need to be emailed to [email protected] with a detailed description, by May 20, with only one item per ticketed attendee. The event is free, but bookings are essential.
Discover the history behind your most treasured items, and maybe unlock some secrets from the past. You never know what you’ll find out!
