Looking for a winter weekend plan with free entertainment, hot coffee, and something to keep the kids busy? Well, Toasty Tunes might just be the thing! Hosted by the City of Unley, this is a community event that’s quickly become a local favourite for families looking for something a bit different during the cooler months.
Now rescheduled to Sunday, July 13th, due to weather, and then again on Sunday, August 3rd, Toasty Tunes brings together live local music, toasties, hot chocolates, craft, and fun activities, all in one of Unley’s stunning green spaces.
The event was dreamt up with three key things in mind, free entertainment for young families, giving life to Unley’s public spaces during the quieter months, and showcasing the parks and playgrounds often hidden in the backstreets of the area.
“Toasty Tunes is all about bringing families together for simple moments of joy — warm drinks, great local music, and a welcoming space to connect on a winter’s morning,” says Mayor Michael Hewitson AM. “It reflects our vision of a connected and thriving community that celebrates living well.”
Each Toasty Tunes event pops up in a new location, giving locals the chance to discover a different part of Unley. June saw Toasty Tunes head to McLeay Park Playground with a pretty epic dinosaur theme, in July it’ll be held at the Morrie Harrell Playground with a Christmas in July theme, and August’s will be at Dora Gild Playground with a messy adventure style day.
The City of Unley really believes that it is important to offer this kind of free, family-focused fun during winter. This is about making it easier to get out of the house, to connect, and to build those little moments of community that mean so much.
At these events, local businesses and performers also get a warm welcome. Toasty Tunes has become a mini showcase for Unley’s creative talent and small food vendors, bringing together the community in a genuinely supportive, low-pressure setting.
