Adelaide food enthusiasts are in for a treat with the upcoming sourdough breadmaking class hosted by renowned chef Nick Hannaford at Catlin on Magill Urban Cellar Door. Scheduled for Saturday the 22nd of June, this event promises to dive deep into the simpler methods of sourdough breadmaking, suitable even for busy lifestyles.

Nick Hannaford, known for his culinary skills and the creation of immersive hospitality experiences, will be facilitating the day-long event. The session is designed to crush the myth that making sourdough at home is difficult and time-consuming. Participants will learn essential tips and shortcuts to incorporate breadmaking into their regular routines, simplifying what many consider a tricky process.

An engaging highlight of the day will be giving a name to the starter dough, affectionately referred to as ‘mother’. This playful approach underlines the essence of sourdough making, understanding that the starter is a live entity, crucial to crafting the perfect loaf.

The session doesn’t end with learning alone. Following the workshop, participants will have the pleasure of enjoying a sourdough pizza made from scratch during the class. The meal will be complemented with a glass of wine from Catlin’s selection of unique, award-winning wines. Each attendee will also take home their own starter ‘mother’ to continue their breadmaking journey.

Nick Hannaford’s approach is heavily influenced by his rich family heritage and his deep-rooted connection to Kangaroo Island where he grew up. His sister runs Hannaford & Sachs, which offers unique dining experiences on the island, further reflecting the family’s involvement in hospitality and gastronomy.

Catlin Wines, founded by Darryl Catlin in 2013, offers the perfect backdrop for the workshop. Nestled in Magill, Catlin Wines is celebrated for its finely crafted wines and inviting venue, including a spacious dining area and tasteful interiors great for to both relaxation and wine appreciation. Known as a place where minimal intervention winemaking is emphasised, the winery ensures each bottle presents a distinct narrative of its origin.

For those interested in the event, it will offer a unique opportunity to not only master the art of sourdough breadmaking, but to enjoy a fun Saturday activity, filled with good food, fine wine, and great company.
