Sidewood Estate launch Hahndorf’s newest luxury dining & cellar door experience

Sidewood Estate have recently unveiled their newest luxury dining experience, The Mappinga Room, an intimate dining venue upcycled from a humble apple shed.

Hahndorf is about to get a brand-new masterclass and luxury dining space with Sidewood Estate’s expansion of the popular establishment.

Originally opening in January 2020, the cellar door at Sidewood Estate will be shifted from its original site, and taken out of the main building. The relocation of the cellar door will see it become a dedicated space for wine tastings, masterclasses and the opening of a private dining venue, The Mappinga Room.

The versatile new space, upcycled from a humble Apple Shed into a luxurious cellar door and dining room, will act as a ‘tourism trailhead’ for the region; attracting guests to the food, art and produce of Hahndorf and the wider Adelaide Hills’ region. The Mappinga Room will showcase not only Sidewood Estate’s current and museum wines, but a thoughtfully curated private collection of some the finest and rarest wines in the world.

The Mappinga Room, to put it simply, is a warm and cosy space with an intimate feeling. Dimly lit, the area exudes an ambience and homely feel with an elegant twist, in a small room that feels like just the right size. The dining room will be open to the public as an 18+ venue, with bookings available for up to 16 people with custom designed menu’s created by head chef Ali Seedsman.

The masterclasses on offer at Sidewood Estates newest development involve three selections; Masterclass one: Introduction to wine tasting; Masterclass two: Wine Blending Experience; Masterclass three: Senses at Sidewood. All masterclasses available offer a different experience for all wine lovers from novice to expert, and seek to educate on the delicacy that is wine.

The shed itself is split into two seperate sections, with the cellar door on one side and the dining room on the other. This offers the perfect excuse to enjoy a tasting in the cellar door, before carrying on your day with a lesson in Sabrage, the art of opening a wine bottle with a sword.

The ‘Mappinga’ name holds significant meaning to Sidewood Estate, that being the Kaurna people’s word for Clouds. This is relevant as their home block vineyard is located in a high altitude, ultra cool-climate site on Mappinga Road, Oakbank. Mappinga is also the name of Sidewood’s flagship wine label; a label bestowed only upon our finest and truly exceptional vintages of Fumé Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz.

The brand-new cellar door and function space will officially open to the public this Friday, and to celebrate are offering complimentary canapés & wine tasting from 3:00pm – 6:00pm on the day. Regular hours following the launch will be Wednesday to Monday 11:00am – 5:00pm.

Bookings are encouraged on 0437 045 164 or via email to [email protected]
