Glenelg has just landed a sweet treat with Urban Desserts opening a Jetty Road location.

The desserts shop first opened a year ago in Morphett Vale, and has since become known for their beautiful, unique desserts.

They have macarons with unique flavours of salted caramel, passionfruit, mojito, and lemon cheesecake; profiteroles; an array of colourful small cakes; custom layered cakes; and more. Their French patisserie-style eats often revolve around mousse, incorporate vibrant colours, and have playful finishing touches such as a candied apple or bright purple glaze. They have 30 different small cake designs that they cycle through, so there’s a different line-up each week.

Urban Desserts opened on the popular beachside road in September, just in time for the school holidays. Co-owner Jeremy Allan says the new spot has the same feel and mission as the original store, describing it as “all about street culture and creating bespoke desserts with difference,” but with a Glenelg spin.

“It’s very much the same plus a little bit more to make it an upmarket, graffiti-style café,” Allan, who co-owns the shop with partner Tahlia, says.

“Most of the Morphett Vale location is where we make the desserts, and Glenelg is more of a dine-in experience with desserts.”

Allan, a South Australian native, has had many career past lives; He has been a boiler maker, a tool maker, and inspector, and is now, after lots of courses, a pastry chef. He says he gets the most joy out of the creative side of dessert making and that the mission of his eatery is to craft desserts that excite every part of the palette.

“To get an absolutely pristine mouthful, each bite needs to be enjoyable with a good texture, a crunch, and different flavours,” he says.

“We very much care about the creative side; We want it to be an overall experience for the eyes, and tastebuds.”
