Vaccination mandates revoked for Education and Passenger Transport sectors

From 12.01am Thursday 31 March, changes in to mandated vaccination requirements are being revoked for the Education and Passenger Transport Sectors.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens, Chief Public Health Officer Professor Nicola Spurrier and Rick Persse addressed the South Australian public this afternoon with the latest information on the evolving COVID-19 situation in SA.

From 12.01am Thursday 31 March, changes in to mandated vaccination requirements are being revoked for the Education and Passenger Transport Sectors.

This also includes Maritime workers. They will no longer be prevented from boarding boats in international waters.

Passenger transport workers include bus, train, and tram workers, as well as ride shares and taxis. No longer mandated under police direction, but steps will be put in place to protect those workers.

Isolation for COVID-positive cases and close contacts remain the same.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has advised that Education and Transport sectors have been selected, “based on the advice given by agency representatives”.

With the removal of mandate vaccination requirements, more sustainable, long-term measures, including wearing masks and doing daily RAT tests.

Today’s COVID Numbers

In the past 24 hours, there has been a decrease in cases to 5,496 cases of COVID-19. Out of the reported cases, 3,636 were confirmed via PCR tests, and a further 1,870 via the rapid antigen tests (RAT).

There was a decrease in ICU patients, with currently 8 in intensive care, and 1 on a ventilator. 

Sadly, there have been 2 deaths in the past 24 hours: a man in his 70s, and a woman in her 80s.

Professor Nicola Spurrier has advised that the numbers are higher today, but does fit within predicted modelling.
