Vanilla Mozi is the bite-proof body cream you need this mosquito season

Vanilla Mozi has taken the concept of biomimicry to new levels, with a body cream that uses the scent of flowers to hide you from mosquitos.

With Australia in the grip of a slew of floods and humid weather, mosquito populations have surged, bringing with them a host of dangerous illnesses.

Australian owned and female led business, Vanilla Mozi, has taken the concept of Biomimicry to new levels. Mimicking Mother Nature’s processes, Vanilla Mozi Bite-Proof Body Cream uses the scent of flowers to communicate with bugs and effectively hide humans from them rather than using pesticides to repel them.

Founder Lea-anne Crawford came up with the concept 15 years ago after struggling to find a non-toxic option in bug protection for her young children. With a background in Applied Science she studied journals about chemicals and essential oils and after many years of trial and error Vanilla Mozi was born.

Her approach is to hide your scent with botanicals that mosquitoes instinctively avoid, a theory that is backed up by a recent study published by the scientific journal, Cell.

This sophisticated botanical approach to bug protection provides an effective, healthy and beautifully scented product for humans to use rather than applying toxic chemicals to your skin, which readily absorbs everything directly into your bloodstream.

For people in flood affected areas, Vanilla Mozi has been a lifesaver. Jen Browning, 45, mother of three, uses nothing else on her family now.

“With the flooding we have been inundated with mozzies meaning we have to apply bug protection day and night. There’s no way I’m covering my children in chemicals 24/7 when there’s a better option. The kids love the smell too so everyone is happy” she says.

Founder Lea-anne Crawford says she always gets a kick out of people discovering Vanilla Mozi.

“Most people are shocked – they have grown up believing we need to repel bugs with toxic chemicals so when they realise Vanilla Mozi works just as well but smells great and is good for you they are stunned. Our customers stay with us for life.”

In addition to using a bug protection cream like Vanilla Mozi entomologist Markus Riegler, a researcher at Western Sydney University, says there are other measures you can take to ensure you remain bite-free.

“Whenever you’re outdoors, it’s good to cover up, and to wear comfortable, loose clothing that prevents mosquitoes from getting access to the skin” he said.

This innovative Australian product is available at your local health food store, pharmacy, independent supermarket, baby store or garden centre, and online. It seems like a no-brainer to keep yourself bite, disease and toxin free.
