Saturday, August 9 will see the South Australian contingent of approximately 340 costumed entrants and 104 themed vehicles set off from Victoria Park Racecourse, Adelaide, for nine days of fun and camaraderie in the name of raising much needed funds for sick, disadvantaged and special needs children in the state.

With entrants from all over South Australia, many join for the enjoyment and friendship the event offers, and are fuelled by the difference it makes in the lives of special needs children.

“The Variety Bash gives back to children in communities all over the country, and it is heartening to visit some of the more remote communities as we travel around,” says Bash Chairman, Peter Curtis.

“It is definitely a fun event,” he said, “but at the same time, there’s not a single person who is not right behind the cause.”

‘’The money raised goes directly towards giving practical programs, equipment and experiences to help children in need overcome whatever obstacles they face and live life to the fullest,” he said.

The Bash has become a well-loved South Australian event which has grown over the years, due to the vibrant themes, fun and creativity associated with these pre-1980’s vehicles and their costumed captains and crew.

The colourful cavalcade of cars covers a multitude of themes, from Good Cops to Toy Soldiers andLawrence of Arabia to Hillbillies.

The Variety Bash originated in Sydney, brainchild of businessman, explorer and philanthropist Dick Smith.  This year the entrants will travel some 2800km’s to revisit the Bash’s place of origin and meet other bashers from around the nation, driving together as one cohort over the Sydney Harbour Bridge in spectacular fashion.

South Australia aims to be the highest fundraising state in the country, having raised in excess of $30M net since the event began in the state and $1.75M net last year for children in need.

The SA Variety BASH runs from August 9 – 17, departing the Victoria Park Racecourse, travelling through the Adelaide hills, through the Murray River-side towns Blanchetown and Morgan before stopping in the station property of Balah and continuing across the border into NSW, where they will unite with other Variety Bashers from around the country in a magnificent finish in Sydney.

The SA Variety Bash departs from the Clipsal 500 track at Victoria Park Racecourse on Saturday, August 9 with festivities from 7am.

Registrations for the 2015 Bash are now open.  Visit www.variety.org.au/sa for more information.
