The spectacular astronomical phenomenon known as the aurora can be viewed here in South Australia as images have recently been flooding the internet of the colourful sky.
Known widely for lighting up the sky in the lower polar regions, the incredible natural sensation can be seen across various SA destinations.
If you’re unsure of what this incredible sight is, an aurora is a natural light display that sees shimmers of bright colours explode in the sky, colours like blue, red, yellow, green, and orange wave together gently, changing shape like softly blowing curtains in the sky.
For South Australian Tania Millard, seeing the lights shift around the sky above in Millicent was something she never thought she’d ever witness, let alone in SA.
“We were just driving in Millicent when we spotted the glow, we pulled over to the side of the road and there it was, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Tania said.
“My friend has mentioned that she has seen it before, but I didn’t realise how incredible it truly was, one second we were taking photos of planes and stars the next the sky lit up into a wave of colours,”.
“With the naked eye you could see the stobes and the light color flowing through them like a river, when I pulled out my camera to take a picture the colors were illuminated, it looked breath-takingly beautiful,” she explained.
Photographers from all over South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria have reported experiencing the phenomenon, giving photographers plenty of chances to capture the night-time light shows.
For South Australian wanting to experience this event, the incredible display of lights can be viewed not only in Milicent, but reports of the display lighting up Mt Gambier and Port MacDonnell have also come in, this is certainly an event not to be missed.
