Vigna Bottin reopens slice of Italy Cellar Door and Osteria in McLaren Vale

Experience Italy right here in South Australia with Vigna Bottin Wines’ newly-reopened Cellar Door and restaurant, Pomodora Kitchen.

With international travel off the cards for a while, now is the perfect time to embrace the cultural experiences that South Australia has to offer and enjoy our favourite pastime (sharing food and wine) along the way.

Nestled in the heart of the McLaren Vale region is Vigna Bottin Wines‘ Cellar Door and Osteria, effectively Italy on your doorstep.

Founded by Paolo and Maria Bottin, the Cellar Door and Osteria is finally ready to open and welcome patrons back now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased.

The Bottin family are all about entertaining, so if you venture out to the Vale to try the Cellar Door and Osteria, you won’t want to go past the opportunity to sample some of Vigna Bottin’s delicious drops at their cellar door.

Specialising in Italian varietals, the Bottin family have been growing grapes in the region since the early ‘70s, when they used to make wine for their loved ones, way before their label was established in 2006. Making wine comes second nature to Paolo, and this is showing through in all of their wines today.

“Our traditional-style Italian wines are part of our heritage,” Maria says.

“From the way Paolo farms and nurtures the vineyard, to using the organic principles his Papa, Anselmo, passed down to him.”

As a result of COVID-19, Vigna Bottin Wines have created a new seated tasting experience in line with current restrictions.

The seated wine flights involve a journey through a choice of five wines from their Casa and Cantina selection, alongside a tasting plate.  Wine lovers can sample the selection, which includes Versecco (sparkling white), Fiano, Rosato, Sangiovese, Compare’s Shiraz, 2016 Shiraz and Paolo’s Selection, currently an aged Shiraz Vintage 2013.

New releases that are just around the corner are sure to tempt your palate, include the currently sold out Barbera, Nero d’Avola and Vermentino.

“Paolo and I love to share food and wine with family and friends, so the menu has been designed purely from the heart, a slice of Italy with every plate,” says Maria Bottin.

“We wanted to create a welcoming environment, almost as if you were coming to our house for dinner,” she says.

With their philosophy of ‘our house is your house’, it’s a given that the Osteria’s food mimics the meals that your Nonna would lovingly prepare for you at home.

The Osteria is operated by Annika, owner of Pomodora Kitchen, who has recently launched a stellar new menu.

The menu features comfort-food staples like pasta fagioli, spinach and ricotta cannelloni, meatballs (Nonna Teresa’s secret recipe) and more, making it the epitome of Italian homestyle.

To complement the re-opening, Vigna Bottin recently unveiled the Vigna Bottin Italian Shed Luncheon Experience.

The luncheon aims to provide people with the ultimate Italian experience where they can sample some of Vigna Bottin’s wine range and sit down for a beautiful meal in a traditional Italian environment, whether it be in the shed, the courtyard, cellar door or even outside if the weather permits.

The Osteria also has an array of tantalising desserts including ricotta cannoli, lemon tart and an Italian specialty, Babà. Annika’s desserts change weekly depending on what’s in season and what strikes her, so you’ll always have a surprise waiting for you.

The Bottin family are also about to celebrate the first birthday of their Cellar Door and Osteria, which they plan to mark with an event in October, along with the launch of some of their 2020 wine releases.
