Vinnies CEO Winter Sleepout To Raise Money For The Homeless

Adelaide City Council CEO Peter Smith, is once again taking part in the Vinnies CEO Winter Sleepout on Thursday 16 June 2011.

Peter will join business and community leaders in capital cities around Australia by experiencing life on the streets in an effort to raise awareness and money for St Vincent de Paul’s homeless services.

“In South Australia, there are over 1,000 people identified as homeless – that is 1,000 people too many,” Peter says.

“By sleeping rough for just one night, we can bring awareness to this serious issue and raise some much needed funds to help get these community members off the streets.”

Last year, the event raised an impressive $2.9 million dollars, which went towards homeless services and programs across the nation.

This year the event is hoping to collect even more money and is calling on the community to dig deep and support the event.

Council’s administration is holding two Casual Days dedicated to the Sleepout and collection tins will also be at the Council’s Customer Service Centre and Uparks.

“You can support Vinnies by sponsoring a CEO via the website, challenging a friend or peer to take part and just by spreading the word,” Peter says.

All money raised will go towards Australia’s estimated 105,000 homeless to find the warmth, safety and dignity that they desperately deserve.
